Is anybody runnig 17" wheels in the front and 18" wheels in the back? If so, what size tires are you running on the 18" wheels

I'm gonna be doing the same thing, but 16" front/17" rear. I'm too cheap to buy new tires for the front since mine only have ~2000 miles on them.

The thing to keep in mind is try and make the sidewall height the same or PDC (pretty damn close ). Otherwise it looks like you have bigger tires in the front. :nono:

just look to the majority of people running vette wheels on their car. "most" of them are running 17/18 combo.

Great point

Even the C5 comes with that combo from Chevy.

Doesn't some of the later 3rd gens have ABS? If so, front and rear? I'm pretty sure some of them came with at least rear ABS.

Obvously, you would want the side wall height of the tires the same. Therefore, the front would be at least 1" shorter than the front.

IF the car has 4 wheel ABS, would this not negatively effect it? IF not, I don't suppose it would effect it at all.

the reason that I had asked is I found a deal on a 4th gen rear end. The only problem is I would have to replace my rear wheels with a ROH ZS wheels in the 4th gen offset. I wondered if I got 18" wheesl in the back what size tires would I need to keep it from looking funny. I'm running 245/45/ZR17 on the front. I'm no expert, but i've never heard of ABS on a 3rd gen

I should have my new wheels on tuesday. They are the 17/18 combo vette wheels, chromed. I am running 245/45/17's in the front and 275/35/18's in the rear. Most vette's run 275/40/18's but the 35's are the same height as the 245's.

Thirdgens never came with ABS. Besides, even if they did, running different size tires is fine. The sensor only detects if the wheel(s) are rotating, not the speed their turning.

The system works like this. The brake pedal's pushed. The computer makes sure all wheels are spinning. Once it finds that one of them isn't, it starts to "pump" the brakes to prevent them from locking up. It works at any speed (there's no minumum or maximum), so the actual speed of the vehicle is irrelevant, as well as the speed of each wheel.

If it used wheel speed, it would kick in every time you went around a turn or curve with the brakes applied. That would suck major butt.

245/45/17's in the front and 275/35/18's in the

surely i would think a 245/45/17 would be different than a 275/35/18 but i could be wrong.

most people when doing the 17/18 go with a 45/40 "front/rear" to keep equal. it all depens on the width of the tires.

i have 9.5 275/35 front and had to go with 35's on the rear with the 295's.

i would go 255 front if i were to run a 275 rear just to keep things somewhat even looking. a 245 in the front with a large rear will look out of place and deminish your handling with a larger difference between the two.

Actually, my 91 TA GTA does have ABS. But you guys are right about the differences, it shouldn't bother the abs system with that amount of tolerances. I was told that from a bunch of you a few days ago when I inquired about putting a wider tire on the back rim. So it should be ok.

Kandied example:
"i would go 255 front if i were to run a 275 rear just to keep things somewhat even looking. a 245 in the front with
a large rear will look out of place and deminish your handling with a larger difference between the two."

I believe Kandied is right, it's better to keep things close front and rear.

I was pretty sure that the later 3rd gens came with ABS. However, I think it was just rear ABS. I believe I had ABS on my 92 Z28 and I think I also have it on my 91 Z28 (I will have to go outside and check next time I think baout it).

Thanks for the explaination, guys!

i don't think so, unless some specaily car like the firehawk had it added, i am 99.9% sure no f-bodies from the factory, for sale to the public, had ABS.

Really?
I'm pretty sure mine has ABS, maybe just for the rear... I'll have to take a look in the morning to know for sure.
