I am going to make my own cowl hood.

I was wondering if you guys could post pics with the hood and the type ( make/brand) of cowl scoop you used. How much you paid for it and where you got it would also be nice.

Also: don't forget to tell me the height of the cowl, and the dimensions of the piece: length/width.

Look in the Body interior or do a search for Camaro Hood on Firebird posted a couple of sites where foam was used to construct different parts and a site where you learn to do a whole car body. Any thing I can help let me know. Les

Last time I spoke with him I think they were $75, it might have changed, but you'll have to ask him. His name is Frank McCusker and his E-mail is frank@hotmail.com super nice guy, big time into cool cars, just tell him Josh refered you and he "might" cut you a break. I know he sells alot of them of E-bay-that's how I first got hooked up with him, and have been in contact with him since, really good guy. Hope that helps.

Did it need a lot of bondo-ing to make it flush with the hood? Any hints you can give on the install?

Looks damn good in the second pic but I can't see much detail.

BTW, 330hp_91RS, thanks for asking this q, I'm going to do the same myself. Need the hood clearance, but not willing to pay $500 USD for a hood!

The guy that did my car said if I'd of have to of paid to have it done it would have been at least $750, cause of the labor involved to make it look like it came from the factory. He took the GTA hood down to bare metal, ran a bead of urethane around the lip of the cowl where it sits on the hood, riveted it to the hood, took fiberglass and laid that into the new cowl and hood, then finished up with bondo, feathering into the finished product. He took special care to place the rivets under the hood supports so you can't see them-unless you REALLY look. A project like this for an end result like mine with a garuntee of never cracking is probably better left to a pro. Frank, the guy I bought it from said it makes him sick because soo many people buy his cowls and use sheet metal screws and just screw it down, or rivet it. I guess he said he'll make my hood infamiss on E-bay since it's the first one he's seen installed correctly.
Here's a pic of before the primer, and I'll send some w/ primer.
