Previous owner ruined my engine bay...

Previous owner of the 'ROC looks like he tried to paint the engine bay black....it's half black and half yellow. I want it all back to the yellow. Is there any way I can get the black off without taking the yellow underneath it away? Man, it would look soooooo much better if this was possible!

If it's not your daily driver I would remove the engine. Then strip it and primer and paint. Make it look real nice ya know.

too bad it is my daily driver

what's remaining of the original paint is fine...so I have no intent on pulling the engine out to simply get rid of some black paint that is in easy reach.

the only thing i can think of that wouldnt be real harsh is mineral spirits. grab a cheap bottle from walmart and try a small area. I know it works for taking off varnish without hurting the stain so you would think it would take off the spray paint.

Its gonna be hard, ive used mineral spirits for cleaning areas that i had sanded, and were previously spray painted, and it didnt take much of the paint off at all. And that was with paint that was about 2 hours old.

like when i powerwash the engine....some of the black flies off revealing the yellow underneath....so i don't think it's really on there very good.
