Poll! Should I go for show or go?

Right now Im a bit confused. For the longest time all I wanted was speed. Now after going to thirdgen nationals all I wanted was a 3'' cervini hood, high rise wing, and mint interior.

Well im already leaning towards go again.

I actually need the hood since my aircleaner is touching but it can wait. Im thinking about getting a set of vortec heads instead of the hood and a cam instead of the wing.

I already have wheels and the car will be getting painted either way. I can get the car painted for about 250$ so thats no problem.

What would you do? Keep it looking stock and make it fast or make it look awesome now and fast sometime down the road. Note that im a college student and I normally dont have the money for heads or anything like that.

BTW here is the car...it would look just like this besides new paint but be much more powerful....

If I dont get the hood I can get all the heads, and maybe get all my gauges taken care of. Then get the megashifter and everything.

I think it depends on how long you keep the car.

Well, what ever you decide, it needs to be your own decision, but I'm sure you know that already Since I come from both schools of show and go, I'd say do both. Make it look good, clean and mean, and have the power to back it up. Which is what I'll be doing as soon as I find a decent rolling chassis to work with.

And like you, I myself will be on the college budget starting the fall, lol. 27 and starting college, whats up with that lol.

The only reason i went for show is because i have a 305 TBI

No sense in making it go fast, and it ran good, so no need to replace it

I vote for go, but if you need a cowl hood, I'd get it.

I really do need the cowl. Hood hits my drop base air cleaner everytime I close it. It hits the stud also...which broke way down inside the carb. I was gonna drill it out but I dont really have to right yet. The hood holds the aircleaner down.

Im wanting to run nitrous so I will need the hood for the plate. I guess I could save up for heads and go ahead and get the hood.

Im trying to decide if I should spend 200$ on a high rise 91-92 spoiler or not tho. Decisions decisions...

I guess I could get a set of vortec heads for xmas...or maybe the hood...ahhhh

Since it seems like you actually need the cowl hood, then definitely go for it...it'll both make the car look more aggressive and have functional value for you.

What kind of times is your car running? I'd definitely make it fast before you make it look really aggressive with, say, a flame paint job or anything...

Ive only raced it once and many things were bad wrong. I ran a 11.7 in the 1/8th.

Heres what was wrong....

Carb running WAY rich
wire #5 and 7 crossed
timing was WAY to high
and traction was not existant.
I also had at least 80lbs of stuff in the car with me. Including 2 tents, clothes, chairs...you name it. Everything I took to the nationals was with me.

I had a 3.0 60 foot time spinning BAD even with all that stuff wrong.

Im probably gonna get the hood since I do actually need it.

Then start modding more. I think Im gonna throw a lt4 cam in for now then get the heads when I can. After that I have to get a posi rear end with some better gears.

I think Ill go for the cowl and paint and be done with the outside

i went for show because i already have enough go for me...350 tpi 5spd (yeah i know they dont make those) it isnt stock anyways...

but im planning a 71 vette lt1 swap this winter so itll have more go but still have the show...

you need to balance the 2 if you want to achieve success in either of those 2 fields..

Ok heres what I think. Id say go halves. You need a hood anyhow so Id say get it and instead of a wing Id say stick with the spoiler thats on the car since they look good anyhow and cam it up a little.

i'm with posbird87, thirdgens already got style - give 'em some more go!

besides, i would count a cowl hood as part of go. it just kinda hits on both worlds which makes it even better! cam, hood, paint - and imho, stick with the spolier ya got.

btw, nice car!

I say paint it, get the hood if you need it for ANY reason, make everything look nice, and mod the H*ll out of it. That's my plan. I want to make my RS very clean with some understated body mods, if any, and make it an all-around performer.

To me your car looks awsome right now. If you need the cowl go for it. But forget about the wing for a wile and worry about going fast enough to need it. What color are you painting it btw?

Im sticking with the factory colors. Just like yours...red and silver.

The wing I wanted was just a 91-92 z28 wing. Nothing to fancy or functional.

I really need the hood because there is no way I can run a nutrous plate with the street dominator intake and street avenger carb. No hood clearance right now. My air cleaner has dents in it from the hood hitting. This is with a drop base to. With the cowl I should be able to run the plate and my flat base again. Plus get some cooler air in there.

Hood im getting for sure. And paint. After that Im not sure. I may go ahead and get my rearend taken care of before any more engine mods. Im sure 3.73s would be alot better than my 2.73s.

I always like working on the go then the show. That way while your busy spinning wrenches every week you dont have to be too concerend about dinging up a nicely painted engine bay, getting a little grease here and there, etc.

I have always been more on the show side. I think it looks good enough now, I would go for more go than show.

Why not do a little of both - compromise

I decided Im gonna go ahead and just paint it as is. Probably get a hood sometime this winter.

Im gonna start working on my gauges, b&m mega shifter and whenever I sell my Nasty Impulse (paintball gun) im gonna do the rearend and cam.

Well have to see what happens. I want more go but show gets the girls...damn compromises.
