I was expecting them to not look good, but I am pleasantly surprised to say it actually looks good on your car. You did a pretty good job painting them. I think the ring makes it look better than others i've seen that are completely black.

I like them a LOT more then the polished wheel, I just wish you could of got a bit more of an even circle of paint..though I imagine it's not the easiest to do as it is.

Very nice car, but I'd have to agree with the rest of you's who like the polished look better. I think black rims only look good on white or lighter colored vehicles. But I will give you props for the idea and modding.

I love them, especially when compared to those body-coloured IROC type rims...bleh...this way they have an almost GTA Crosslace type feel.

wellt he reason i painted them all black, is cause the front right was bent, and i couldnt find an exact double striped FRONT rim that someone would sell me seperate from a set.. so i had to get the older style, and i didnt want it to mismatch which obviously it would.. id figure if they were black theyd be harder to notice that the front right is 1 stripe rather then the other 3 being 2 striped.
Process :
1) Buy ALOT of aircraft stripper, ii couldnt have don it without this stuff.. Id buy 6 cans. Also helps drasticly to have a pressure washer to blast the stuff off.
2) coat the rims down, and let em sit for 15min. Spray off the bubbled clear coat.
3) repeat, this time it will dig deep into the paint and remove all you need removed.
4) do every rim like this, its VERY time consuming, but its WELL worth the time.
5) dry the rims, and i took 100 grit sandpaper to remove the clearcoat / pieces of paint i couldnt get off, which wasnt alot, but then again, i didnt want this to be some hack job, i wanted it near perfect.
6) tape off the rims and spray away, i used universal black engine paint, and it was my first time painting a body part if you will, i mean ive painted stuff, but not something like this. I did an ok job, first rim ( older style) i did was very easy to paint. The newer ones were alot harder, the indents are slanted more and harder to spray. its like each rim id start painting got better, the 4tf was mint, and up until then there were a few things i messed up on. one hint i can give is DONT remove the tape until your absolutly sure its perfect, cause its a bitch to repaint without the tape, or retape it.
And thnks for the comments, i started at 12am and finished at midnight, so it took a while, but imo it was well worth it. Not to shabby for an 18yr old :P.

if you check up a few posts i posted my steps i took to do it.
Also just a "WARNING"
IF you use a high pressure water system or anything that can spray the stripper onto you, PLEASE cover yourself with rain gear or something that will keep the water off you ( dont wear normal clothes ) luckily i had a shower nearbye and i soaked myself in it for a few minutes, this stuff burns very bad.
I found out the hard way, my first spray off it all went onto me and in about 2 seconds my body lit up, it is an acid type spray, i mean it takes off paint and clear coat. Just stay on the safe side and buy yourself some raingear or something to keep it off you. If you have any more questions lemme know, and thanks for the comments, positive and negative, its appreciated.

I like the way it turned out on your car, although i'm a fan of chrome......
It definitly adds a nice touch to the car.....
I don't get the whole black rim thing either, I like chrome ALOT better, but then again i have seen some black rims that work very nicely with the car.....

I bought new ones so it would bring out the middle a little, but i hate the look of the locking nut.. although i dont really want my rims stolen, but i still think it looks retarded :P

i really like the wheels. it looks great. i think the shiney lugs look right at home in their too.. kinda brings out the polished rim even more. nice job.
i used high temp engine paint... gloss black though... as soon as as i get my tranny back together, im going to be wetsanding the paint down. oh and for anyone who wants to do this.... make sure its high temp... the regular paint will flake off after time...

my rims are the double stripe iroc rims, i forget what years.. 88-89 or something i forget. but the front right one is the older style iroc rim 86-87? i donno.. but yea thats why i painted em black so it wouldnt mismatch, i explained it up like 10 posts. good eye though
luv them!looks real good! i am gunna be doing my z28 rims black also but i am only going to paint the light parts black, and leave the ring and to line going down each spoke.

Black rims look awesome, I like them. Chrome rims are also nice but everyone does them polished so this gives a nice look with the added uniqueness of not being like everyone else. That in itself is reason enough.

They do look good on your car, especially with that ring, but I'm another non black rim lover. And I own a set!
Anyone want mine?

Yes those are the rims. THere are no scratches or curb marks. just a little break dust and minor paint fade. I don't know a price. For me to sell them now, I would need another set to put on it. I will trade for another set that I like. Right now I'm broke. I'm trying to start a business. www.WaynePC.com

There is a fellow thirdgenner on this site that I know who is restoreing his car and is going to paint it with a cobalt blue type colored paint and then have black wheels. I think blue with black rims is pretty cool. But i deffinatly agree, that light colored car wiht dark rims is just awsome, adds contrast.
