Way to go! great job! You must be very proud of that.

Did you use a single stage paint? Or base coat clear coat?

Not really. Just overspray. I repainted drums and inner wheel wells after, back to black. Actually was easier than trying to mask it off.

The earliest picture I have of the car is when I was yankin the engine. I should have taken pics when I first got the car, however, its too late now.

The picture actually doesn't show all of the imperfections in the paint very well. It wasn't all that bad to begin with, however, under the body side moldings there was some surface rust developing, so I figured if I was going to have to prep to paint the doors why not just do the whole car.

Fantastic job! If I had an adiquate facility, I would start work on my firebird. I need to fix it up once again.

That car looks awsome. Great job on the car!

Nice job! Did you setup a fan in the window or anything to pump air out?

Yes that is exactly what I did, nice sized box fan on high, I recommend a furnace filter on that also. It did a good job of keeping the over spray down. I used an HVLP gun (boy what a difference from the conventional type!)

Here is a picture before the wet sanding. Shiny as hell, I just wanted to get rid of the small amout of orange peal.

Does that have metal flake in it?

When I first had my car painted a buddy of mine put a box fan in the window. He didn't have an HVLP gun though and there was a lot of "paint" in the air.

Good looking car. Makes me REALLY want to get started on mine!

later,
bill

very nice man! one question, when you remove all the masked off areas, do you have to worry about the tape pulling off parts of the paint?

Yes it does have metal flake in it. At no time was their tons of paint in the air. When I painted my Nova about 8 years ago with a conventional gun there was.

I removed it the next day and had no problems. I just pulled "with " the direction of the surface at an angle and had no problems.

It took me about a good 40+ hours to get the car perfectly straight (get rid of door dings, and 13 years of other imperfections). I used a nice 1.5 foot sanding stick on the flat surfaces when sanding near the end to make sure it turned out flat.
