What color should I paint engine?

I am going to be dropping in a new 350 engine in about 2 weeks and was thinking of probably painting it to make it stand out. Right now, the engine is coated in a light gray paint. I'd like to hear some suggestions from everyone. I have the dark red/burgandy color 91 Pontiac Firebird and was thinking that a bright red might clash really badly, but some say it's ok. I'll take a picture of the engine either tomorrow or the next day to post it up here so you can get an idea.

personally i think the best engine compartments are the ones that match the exterior. granted it will get expensive quickly but definitely look the best. i also like black flat/gloss, for some reason the light blue seems to be popular.huger orange is a decent choice as well. just make sure the color of the heads, oil pan, etc match the block otherwise it will look really tacky.

I say get the engine block painted black...

Then accent the rest of the engine bay with red and chrome....

IMO that would look the best.....

the engine bay should match the color of the car, if that cant be done black always works. id keep the engine black, im not to into the orange, red, blue for our cars, that stuffs alright in the older muscle cars tho.

Yeah, you have to get a very high temp paint and do a couple coats. I was thinking all black or the dark red. I'll get a pic to show you what the engine looks like now and then go from there.

i painted mine gloss black, and i love how it looks. i was going to have it painted body color, but i thought it might be overkill.

black blocks will go with any body color IMO

I perfer black for block, no matter what over time you will get some sepage of some fluid which will attract dirt. even with engine degreaser some will be left. On a black block you will never see it! The one in my Nova is Chevy Orange and after 10 years It doesn't have that super clean look, where if it was black it would still look great!

I always did like a red block with black heads. I think it's a good contrast.

I had mine painted "chrysler" red. It's an awesome red and with my AL heads and Super Ram polished with some parts powdercoated in my red and chrome engine bay I am thinking it will look nice... Here's hoping.

Here's a couple pics of the engine. My friend said he painted it light gray to look like the Jasper engines. And he also said that it came out of a cop car with 2.02 heads.

unless you plan on maintaining it , I'd say black. After a while the oil and dirt will really show on any other color

for a street driven motor i think that it is safe to say that black is the best. a bright color will show all of the little peices of dirt and if you ever have trouble with oil leaks it will be all over the place and look like absolute crap. mine is going to be all black accented with aluminum parts. i painted my water pump with that aluminum color too. although, i think that the aluminum paint is not as good as regular black engine paint. it comes off really easily. it looks cool right now but when i put it together i might paint it back to black.
