Formal introduction
Here are all our cars. The black bomber is being replaced. The red GP is my car. The replacement car is my husbands dream car. Already a Pontiac fanatic, he earlier settled on the Grand Prix becuase he couldn't afford much. Since the black one threatened to die right after we were married, I told him to look in the paper for a replacement beater. Instead he found a Trans Am GTA in pretty good shape, needs a new hood, fin, and paint job. He did his research on it, made sure the record was clean - so I decided to let him have it before we even looked at it. He was so excited that after the test drive, he forgot to check the engine out! We plan on slowly restoring it, so that once our kids are grown up, it can be one of those rare old cars you look at and drool over - at least I do.

Looks pretty good.. I like having a car album that shows before pics, and after pics.. it feels really good knowing you put that much time / effort into it and made it look so much better.. my cars become like family to me, even if it drains my pockets. im sure everyone else would agree.

Yeah, my husband's like that too. He wanted to keep the black car and drop a new engine in it - but I didn't think it was worth the trouble (he smashed his front end into an SUV). The GTA's more valuable, so I don't mind.

I was told on the phone by the guy that he had put stock TA rims on it - we found some GTA ones on Ebay, the gold had been painted black, so when we paint the whole car black, we'll hve matching rims. IT'S NOT GONNA STAY LIKE THAT, I PROMISE!!!

Actually I'm having trouble deciding what would look better - black or gold rims. I'm leaning towards black, since that's what we're painting the car. Any opinions?

Cool. I noticed that you de-badged the car. I'm buying black emblems right now, 'cuz red ones would look stoopid on a black car. Good deals on Ebay, I'll end up paying half (if that) of what the aftermarket dudes charge. I like the rims, too.

Black on Black looks really good.
I photoshopped my maroon T/A black to see what it would look like.

I like it. Way cool. Your ride may have a distant twin in Hawai'i, sometime in the near (I hope) future.

If you want a TRUE restoration, the rims would have to be gold. However, if you like the black on black combo then yeah, go for it. Looks good.

I don't consider rims to be a 'mod', along with rockford fosgate amps and neon. Black rims will enhance the appearnace of the car wilst not really yelling PERFORMANCE-POSEUR like 20" chromes could. (IMHO)

Looks like this now,

The wheels have changed as well and I haven't had a chance to roll it out of the garage to take more pics.

Well, I was reading another thread and someone had comparison pix of black v. gold. I decided I like the way the gold stands out. Now we just have to get the right size.

Black GTA wheels are my pic. I was thinkin of a set for my 91z. Classic industries has them for like 600 a set of 4 brand new, and the offer the center caps that say camaro. Those wheel were actually used on the 1LE camaros from the factory, so its not really an aftermarket mod for those purists.

Hey fruityone mentioned true restoration... would replacing the hood and fin with fiberglass affect that if they still looked the same? I haven't decided whether I want true restoration or for it to just look stock. Along those lines, is it truely restored if he does a bunch of engine mods?
