My 1991 Camaro

Here are a few pics of my Camaro. These were taken in June, after I took this car all the way to Panama City, Fl. Sometime in the future I'm planning to fix the scratches in the front ground effect....I went a little into a ditch all over a suicidal possum. Not that I'm angry about it, I cannot justify killing something just to save the cosmetic value of my car. But, I digress, let me know if you have any suggestions I could add to my car.

how big was the possum? Would bet from the tiny amount of damage on the car that hitting the possum probably would have been worse.

yes, nice looking engine bay :-)

Suggestions?

Well, I personaly don't like the wing type spoilers, I like the lower ones that just "lip up".

Also, the front blinkers look very old compared to the headlights and the rest of the car. maybe clean the inside of them or something.

That's a good point, 19doug90, because it looked about the size of a raccoon. My former boss got a huge dent in the bumper of her Eclipse from hitting a skunk.

Thanks the the suggestions, Error404, I definitely need to clean up the blinkers a bit. I've been meaning to get around to that, as well as replacing the lights. The former owner put in red bulbs which I'm personally not too fond of.

I guess you could say I agree with the "less=more" concept myself.

True sparkplug wire holders/retainers rather then tye wraps. Also, remove the dual snorkle if your going to keep the filter on the engine like that. Part to replace snorkle should be easy find.

Hey, look at this, I got one in my garage

something thats probably more superstition then fact with todays wires but its not the greatest idea to bundle all of your wires together just because its always possible a spark could jump wires. The way i did it was okay take the first two wires, put a tie wrap around each loosely and then tie wrap together the two tie wraps then tighten it all up...snip the excess off and it looks descent and is functional because it keeps the wires apart

Thanks for the suggestions on the wires, as you could probably tell I was a little hazy on how to get them out of the way and properly secured!

np i had a friends dad tell me how to do it so the info just gets passed down...the only thing i left out is that the last wire just gets wire tied down to anything not too hot that will hold the whole row out of the way....if you do it right (i didnt but i did it functional enough so i dont care) it serves its purpose and actually looks kind of good. Yay for a home made spark plug wire loom.

you could strip and paint them and even polish them while you are at it your wheels are the easiest factory wheels to polish and they look awesome polished

there is a tech article on it and several members have done it recently

My Z had red on th ewheels too but I stripped the paint off cause they turned pink.I think(not sure) that only the 350tpi Zs had painted wheels.

I think they look better red, take them off, tape off the smooth outer lip paint the entire rim, and use a sander on all the flat parts, keep sanding till smooth.

Yeah I used the aircraft stuff but in the spray can plus a small wire brush. It took all of the clear of and most of the faded red too,the rest I had to use the brush with the stripper.I would repaint my wheel red again but they are badly knicked up and road rashed. So I plan on getting a new set.

One word of caution, don't get any of that stripper on any part of the tire or any plastic. The stripper will discolor the tire and kinda melt or cloudy plastic.

the Z rim looks pretty good but there is still a hint of red in places...howed you get all the pink off your rims without scratching the hell out of the good aluminum around it ??

I used one of those little red wire brushes that you use to clean off battery terminals.I sprayed the stripper on,wait a few seconds and then scrubbed that area with the brush.I also used medium/fine grit sandpaper along with the stripper for the areas where the paint was hard to get off. After I was done I quickly washed off the stripper residue before it dried on the wheel.

Yes, it's an old thread, actually my first, but I appreciate the comments nonetheless. The car still looks the same aside from some paint touch-up and the problem with the wires in the engine bay has been corrected.

I've been using Sony Imagestation to host, simply because it's free and I don't use it enough to warrant paying for it. I'll definitely check out photobucket though. By the way, if you're interested, I still have the hi-res pictures here and a few others I can email.

I bought that air filter at the local O'Reilly's here a few years ago. They had to special order it, not because it's an especially unique part, but rather because the auto shops here have the strange habit of only stocking the parts no one needs.
