So I dropped my car off at the gas station today...

After repeated complaints about having a rear window louver, and this "armadillo" look with a 305 TPI backing it all up, I decided it was time to do something about it.....

So here it what i dropped it off for......

New spark plugs.

Had to do something to back up the look, figured this would do the trick...........too bad I won't have the car for 2 hours......

I too had the rear window louvers, I had them for 3 months till I realized they looked like an armadillo. They really only looked good from one angle, and it was like if it doesn't look good from all angles whats the point.

Plus the fact that I tried to clean the rear window on a windy day and it broke the louvers as it flew up and hit my roof and that they add 27lbs to the hatch.

I didn't mind them on your car, but I do like seeing them without the louvers now.

just my opinion, but i think you're way better off buying some spark plugs from a junkyard and building them up and installing them yourself. how much are you paying for them to do it? $9,000, $10,000? You have to figure in the cost of removing your old spark plugs, and putting the new ones in. Plus, $50 per hour times 50 hours....that's $2500 right there not including the price of the plugs

so just my opinion, but i think you got taken

Well, since you guys are revealing all of your ultra keen mods - I think I'll let you in on one of mine. I didn't want my Z28 mats to get any more dirty than they already are - so I went to Target® and bought some twenty dollar Car and Driver© mats.

Then I installed them myself. EVEN the rear ones.

The plugs wouldnt be too bad if it werent for the damn smog stuff. I can do the drivers side plugs in 15 minutes but i have to get the car up in the air and crawl under to get at the 6 and 8 plugs.

50 hours to do spark plugs? That somehow does not add up LOL.

I have a little V6, takes about 15 mins for all 6 plugs.
Maw ha ha.

thats insane i did mine myself and I'm no master technician, spark plugs are easy to do! The fun part is getting to them, just allot yourself a few hours. $10 or so for 8 AC delco's is alot better than $300 and I'll bet money the "mechanic" doing it won't change all 8 since a couple are hard to get too..........

awesome thread by the way!!!!

Thats nothing my moms van died about 300+ miles from home so took it to a chevy dealership 180 bucks for 6 plugs and a cap and rotor i got the msd helicore wires for 36 and the accel cap and rotor for 20 sheesh

best thread ever!

personally what id do is Mcguyver it. take a long power cord and cut it. connect it to each distributor point and run it where a spark plug would go. its a good mod. least 40 hp to the wheels.

I wish i had money to throw around like you guys. If i keep saving, it will only be 2 more months until my baby goes to the shop to have the dash pad armor all-ed.

Once i get my degree, i can even afford some wax

The drivers side is easy from the top but the back to passenger side are easiest from the bottom, just start feeling around and you will figure it out!

man im thinkin the same on this thread and im lost could someone clue my dumbass in i mean wtf???

200 or more for plugs and wires????????/
i can by some damned full our 9 10 mm wires fomr summit or jegs and some damned 5 or 10 bucks a piece plugs n not cost that much whats he gettin done?

i dont understand that?
i done mine on my v 6 in botu 20 mins maybe alot of cussin n fightin.

then enjoyed a couple cold ones afterwards.
i had to change mine 1st car i ever seen plugs killed so bad it wouldnt fire, cranked the battery dead tryin.
put that on charge while i changed em, i was goin to fire it up back it out run some carb cleaner thru the throttle body into intake to clean it all out n injectors n stuff but wouldnt fire so had change plugs w/o doin it.
guy had car before me ran out of gas put some in but vapor locked it in the fuel system n flooded the guts out of it.
i had my ol dman hold purge valve down on intake while i cranked it up n got it goin.
he said he had adjust something on the throttle to get it to idle tho when ti started i had to hold it to mid way down to get it to idle, idled so rough whole car shook and jumped liek it had a huge big block w/ 1000 horse and solid motor mounts comin off the line at around 7 grand. no lie!!! was horrible.
let run for 5 10 mins and cracked it to floor smoke rolled everywere, couldnt see or nothin done it again and cleared up idled normal and ran fine started fine everytime since.
til the plugs died and i had change em

for the rear cylinder on the passenger side on my car i dropped the starter...made it a lot easier.....but yah i did most of mine from the bottom.....i really would rather do spark plugs and wires myself because it is an easy task and i think its not worth paying someone else more than 20 bucks for doing....

The amazing 160,000 mile spark plug

When i first got my bird and was doing the normal tune up the day after i bought it, i got all 5 plugs out in about 10min. But that #1 plug is a real bitch to get to, and i didnt feel like moving all my vaccumm lines and such so i just figured id get to it later and put the new wires on anyway. Well apparently every mechanic that had ever worked on the car also felt the same way, because when i pulled the motor and tranny for a rebuild, i found the original AC delco spark plug, the same as the day it left the factory, still in the #1 cyl. 160,000 miles and it actually didnt look too bad. Hell i probably could have just cleaned it up a bit and kept using it but im not that cheap

True story
