Chroming a 92 Z28 GRILL....

One of my good friends got a job recently at a chroming factory. They chrome everything from the new GM Impala grills, to toilet buttons, to interior car pieces, to everything...

Anyhow, I was at the place yesterday and they mostly specialize in chroming plastic pieces, but do metal as well.

Anyhow, I am going to give him my bowtie grill from my car this week. He is going to chrome it for me.

Now, I brought this thread up before... And everyone said that the chrome would chip because the grill is plastic and stuff. However after checking their chroming process this is not true. I believe they have flex agents in the chrome, and there is a very thorough process which they go through which involves some sort of primer dip and a whole lot of other **** (I didn't want to stand there breathing all the chemicals).

But, just seeing what you guys think. I mean, chrome grills always look great on cars, so wouldn't a 91-92 bowtie grill look great on our cars?

Well, if it does, I am going to buy a good 10-20 grills and get them all chromed, and then start a little busines on ebay. I am thinking about chroming the RS grill too, might look sweet.

I think it would look funny. In my opinion thirdgens don't look good with alot of chrome on them, just makes them look older. It might look alright on a silver or white car, but even that I dunno about.

well, here's the way i figure it...

billet grills look good... so why wouldn't a chrome plated stock grill look good?

they're both the same color... if anything the stock one would look better

Yea but billet steel is not as shiny as chrome, plus its broken up into lines. There's still black inbetween to contrast it. With it being solid chrome, I just don't think it would look right.

Put a pic up after you get it done and installed on your car. Then I will make a decision on if I like it or not.

I think the RS grill might look sweet, but I'm not a fan of the Z28 grills in the first place.

I say go for it. If you dont like it sell it on ebay and buy a stock black one.

I had thought about it, but no one around here does it. I would like a chrome master cylinder cap for my car. That might be another idea for you.

A chrome grill would look good on the right color car. It would definatly match with chrome or polished rims. IMO

i think it would be sweet.
if i hadnt made my own id say deinfatly set me up for one depending on price.
but hell i might still want one.
i had a custom made tube grille like the trenz and went w/ a mesh one looks good. made em myself.
costs alot less then buyin em.
i think chrome would look good tho.
and there is tons of stuff plastic and chrome plated.
toys, bikes, cars, motorcycles, all kinds n i suppose they do have a flex agent because they dont crack or flake or nothin.
definatly want to see a pic of it

I think it depends on the color of the car on wether it would look good. I have a white car and i think it world probably look great. There used to be a late model 4th gen that drove around here (south orange county) with the grill chromed and it looked sweet. My z28 doesnt have a grill, but if it did i would either paint it silver or have that done to it. Did the 84's ever come with grills?

IMO it'd be way too much, or should I say too "bling." Then again, maybe if the car was slammed to the ground with 20" chrome spinners, maybe, just maybe........

IMO i bet that if the factory made them chrome when they came out everyone would love them.
No one would say its to much or over done they just accpet it and love it because its factory.
i too would leave it chrome bein factory not because stock but because its chrome i love chrome!!!!!.
you could'nt get too much unless you diped yur whole car.
i mean look at hummer h2's n junk ad alot of others , they had loads of chrome factory our cars got none.
none factory
onlythgin chrome would be wheels ppl add or valve covers n such aftermarket parts.
IMO they should put at least somethgin chrome on em fomr the factory.

ps. i think they may have put one thgin chrome on...
the trim rings or beauty rings on m factory wheels.
they at least used to be chrome i think wasn't when i got em.
they are comin off anyways for some old schol chrome wheels.

OMG Your crazy, (lol) the Z28 grill is by far the best looking grill for all Camaro's bar none!!!

And a chrome grill, on a 3rd gen, I think not, maybe silver, but as someone already said, chrome on a 3rd gen (besides the motor and wheels) is just ugly!!!

he he
