YES... hang on - finding info
Edit; crap, can't seem to find it. There's a kit for $249 that converts the front setup to a coilover one and uses all existing hardware.

Coil over are easy to make. I have them on my rear. Two good shocks and $30 for the spring kit that clamps spring on them.
I run my coil over unloaded. Meaning while the car is sitting level, the coil over springs are doing nothing. [ I still have my stock coils]
But what is better is an adjustable coil over. So you can adjust the load as needed. Set the left harder to push more weight to the right wheel when racin. Unless you go adjustable, just make your own.
Any auto store will have the kit. in 500lb or 700lb springs that bolt onto stock shocks. I think the blue ones are the smallest n what I got on my 3rd gen.

You could run without the stock coils if you wanted. I never have though. I have used this method on many cars. I have them on both my Bird and wagon now. But I have 700's on the wagon. [red coils.]
Looks a little rusty as it was done about 3 or so years ago.You can see it has plastic sleeves to kill noise and they clamp on well. Doesn't take much force to make them stay in place.
You could install them so one side has more pre load then the other but its not something you would want to change often. If your gonna use them to replace the stock springs, you would install them loaded. suspension hanging lose with the body on the jack.

They can also be used on a car with bad or saggy springs to improve the ride. They works so well almost anywhere on anything with shocks.

fancy racing adjustable coil overs are better but unless you get them, What I did is no different. They may attach to the shock different but who looks under there often?
anyone know how to calculate spring rates/sizes/heights for coilover applications?
i was given 250 with my original setup and with full weight it wasn't bad but stiff. after i put the car on a diet i could only adjust up and it was really stiff.
now i'm running 200lbx10x3"id and while it rides ok i can't really lower it as much as i'd like and it doesn't take bumps as well as i'd like either. handles fine at the track though.
