Okay fellas, I just ordered my Ram Air II hood...

Yep, another $620'ish dollars out the door! Think it'll look good??

I also have clear side markers for front and rear. I'm going to do the translucent black paint mod for my taillights and the turn signals up front which, in essence, "smokes" the lens making it nigh impossible to see the grid in the taillights and yellow in the turn signals. With the filled in body seams and metallic Pearl White paint... Whaddya think??

Steve
Now I just gotta find a brake light for that spoiler...

Got it from www.usbody.com; I'll post pix when it's installed - should be here this time next week, which means it'll get installed over next weekend; the rims I got from Tire Rack. If you go to www.nethirdgen.org you can do a search on the appearance board there (search for the phrase "ram air") and find pix of one already on a Trans Am...

Steve, is that a spoiler from a 4thgen transam? Looks like it in the pic. If it is, what did you do to make it fit?

Well fellas it is a fourth gen TA spoiler that I got from someplace in Oklahoma called American Camaro and Firebird (or something like that - check your local junkyards first.) It took quite a bit (and it's still not ready for paint yet) of Fiberglass/Bondo work to get it on there. The two middle pedestals didn't touch the decklid at all - they stopped short about 1 1/2" above the lid. I also had to fab up some things to get it clamped/bolted to my lid. My buddy Adam is damn good with the fiberglass/bondo combo and has done a killer job with them to date. If you attempt this be aware it will take a while to get her ready for paint! Here are some more pix:

I wanted the pedestals to have a little rib running down the rear to the decklid...

You can see that I still have some more work to do but I hope to wrap it up this weekend, get my hood on next weekend and take her in for paint after that. WooHoo!!

Well, actually this is just a little photoshop magic as of now. I have the shaved kit in and it works great, but since it's my daily driver I haven't gotten it in to have the plates welded in yet. I considered just filling it with fiberglass, but a buddy of mine who works in a body/paint shop (for a couple of NASCAR guys) said to weld it. He said that with all of the slamming and stuff that doors receive it would eventually crack. Especially in colder weather. I'll keep you guys informed.

Thanks for all the great replies!

Scauffiel,
I did a search on netthirdgen using ram air, and found over 88 posts, none of them in the appearance section. Checked some of 'em out, didn't see the photo. Could you please post a link to the photo of the hood on the T/A.

Thanks, Dave '91 T/A

That wing is bad *** . I would like to copy it some day, but think I will leave your creation alone and original.

Are you sure that is not photoshop magic?

I heard that the doors metal is too thin to weld a plate. Old cars used a lot heavier gauge metal, so it is easier to do. But the space that is needed to be filled is so small, I think that a filler would be suitable.

Just my .02.

Good luck!

Well thanks again brother - and that aint no magic! I may take another look at the door handle recesses. If I rough it up real good I would think that fiberglass would stick pretty good. I just worry about the expansion rates in cold weather. It would suck mighty ***** to have a paint job ruined because I didn't do it right the first time! The guys that welded my hinges in said that they could (and have in the past) weld steel plates over it no problem. 'Cept for the $100 price tag.

Absolutely, weld in a plate. I shaved the handles on my '88 about 11 years ago, and the doors have held up perfectly.

Well, i have the RA II hood on my GTA.. and it f'ing rules. You wont be disappointed scauffiel. I'm shaving the handles next week, and getting the car painted black / midnight blue. Hopefully it will look hot Oh, and just a little warning.. after you cut out the scoops in the hood... be careful driving at 2am in 60 degree weather. You'll almost wet yourself at how much faster you car got
