I got my car a couple of years ago and it had 4% tint on it. I had to take it to be inspected and they made me take it off because at the time i Didnt know if my car came from the factory like this or not. So for the last 3 years I have had to use the 30% tint to0 be legal and this sucks. The other day I was looking at the codes underneith the top of the storage box in my car and looked at the RPO decoder on this site. One of my codes said that It had factory tint. Does any one know what % the tint was that came from the factory in '87?

The factory tint is on the front window, like a 6" stripe.

So they didn't offer tint on the side and rear windows from the factory on our cars?

I may be wrong but i believe the side and hatch windows were tinted too. stinger was just pointing out that if you look at the top of your windshield you can see the 6" tinted stripe. And you can compare and contrast how dark it is for yourself.

I'm not too sure about this, but I do belive that the front window is the only place on our cars that factory tint applies too. The side and rear windows do have a tint to them, but no darker than normal, also it's kind of green. If you look at suburbans, for example, the rear windows have a factory tint. They don't do the fronts cause of diferent state laws.

I'm under the assumption that when you get factory tinting, they do it at 85 or 90%. Untinted windows are just that, 100%. The Suburbans mentioned earlier use a 20% on the rear windows. Remember, the the % of tint refers to how much light gets through the tint.

I've got a calender of stock camaro's...there's an 88 with tints. This calender is all STOCK cars, so I'm pretty sure that this tint is stock as well.

 

I want to get my 5% back that was awsome. Does anyone know if you go through state inspections, Do you have to have working side windows? I was thinking about getting my 5% back and just pulling the fuse on my windows and telling the inspectors that they dont work and then they cant check.

Im not sure about your state, but i had an 11% tint on my windows (50% is illegal here), and got pulled over the first time i drove the car. The officer had me open the door to check, so it wouldnt matter too much if the window didnt come down. Unless they cant get the tester slot over the window, they can make you take it off.
