need engine cleaning help

the engine on my fiance's GTA has never been cleaned before we bought the car. I'm trying to get the engine bay cleaning up before stripping the car for paint. The valve covers have what appears to be baked on oil on them and I can't get it off. I've tries engine degeaser and oven cleaner, no luck. Any ideas's?

Thanks

Steam cleaning? If that and the engine cleaner don't work, then you may have to get to scrubbin...

Tried scrubing and steam cleaning, no luck.... Would brilo pads ruin the paint on the valve covers?

If youre going to consider brillo pads, you might start with those 3m type plastic scrubby pads...at least those wont hurt paint?

Then if that doesnt work, try steel wool/brillo?

Perhaps a wire brush?

Just strip the stuff off with a fine wire brush attached to a drill and repaint them. Take them off so you can do a real good job.

Repaint or replace at this point. I started using a scotch-brite pad with degreaser and it started taking the paint off. Oh well, I really didn't expect it to be easy, nothing ever is with these cars.

Where should I look for replacements? The thing that worries me abot painting is the heat, dirt, and trying to clean again after painting.

You can get new ones at www.summitracing.com or any store that like. They make some fantastic edelbrok valve covers for center bolt you might want to look into
