Car keyed...any tips on fixing?

So I go out to my Jeep yesterday morning, and I find that some worthless piece of garbage unfit to live has keyed my Jeep.

Scratched "4N" on the passenger door in foot high letters, and "LYN" on the hood.

I was seeing red....I'm STILL seeing red just thinking about it.

It's pretty deep, not through to the primer, I don't think, but through the clearcoat. It really shows up good on the black paint, those fawkers.

Anyone have any tips for fixing it without taking it to a body shop?

My paint isn't perfect, I have a few trail scratches, but this is ridiculous. Makes me sick just looking at it.

At least if they had just keyed down the side of the car I could call it trail damage.

Thanks in advance.

Take Painting Masking Tape And Put It On Each Side Right Up To The Sratch Then Paint It The Color Of Your Car(Couple Of Coats) Then Pull The Tape Away Wet Sand A Little Bit With 1500-2000 And You Should Be Good.

Gee, thanks for the advice. I didn't realize Jeep paint was different from F-Body paint.

I figured I'd get a few valid responses on a board called "Auto Detailing and Appearance".

Get some polish and a buffer. If that doesn't work, seek professional help.

Black is gonna be a tough color to fix.

Black is actually a fairly easy colour to fix. Is you insurance company decent? If so I would just go through them.

Not thirdgen related, but you can search for paint repairs and I think theres a tech article on touching up paint too.
