Choo Choo Customs made an "SS" version in the mid 80s. I have yet to see one other than in brocheurs though.
They also made an "SX" version and the "TeamCamaro"...I posted some pics from the brocheur a while back in the History/Restoration section under a thread about the TeamCamaro..

I think it is fair, however, to say that CCC's SS version was shameful compared to what we are used to think of as an SS Camaro. I *think* for one that it was strictly available with the 2.8L .... It was mostly a "sticker" upgrade and a few appearance mods...

I have an 88' Camaro Coupe that I'm fixing up. I got a SS hood from ASCD, most of the ground effects from a 91' or 92' Z28, and before the end of last summer, I had a fast burn 385 dropped in it. I also have lowering coils and a 91' Z28 spioler. I really haven't gotten around to my car this year since I'm busy with school, but hopefully by this summer it will at least look good. I know I still need a new tranny and rear end, but when I'm finished, hopefully next summer, I'll have a car worthy of SS status. In fact, with a GM Hot Cam kit, I'll have a 430hp and all the components of a ZZ430. I'm also looking into getting 18's this summer. I wish I was further along in my project so I could post some pics, but the project is still a little rough.

Next summer when the beast is painted, she is getting a ASCD SS hood, 91-92 Z spoiler (probably, now that I saw that bird spoiler im thinking..) She is gona stay black, but with dark gray metallic ghost racing stripes from bumper to bumper. I hate how they stop the stripes on the hood. Take it all the way down man Im semi thinking about 91-92 Z GFX too....that would require a new front clip which i dont really want to do. Ill think about it

The thirdgen SS equivalent would be the IROC-Z.

There is a guy named IROCSS on 3rdgen.org with a 454 in his Z28. I think that qualifies as an SS!

So what is the general consensus? Is sticking "SS" emblems on a 3rd gen grounds for being a poser? I personally think it is OK. The package wasnt offered on a 3rd gen, and if you can beat a 4th gen SS to the ground, then why not call yours an SS? As long as you have the engine to back up your sticker, I think you're OK.

I agree scott but it doesnt have to "stomp" just fill these baisic requirements: 300+hp, SS hood, and 36/24 swaybars. So what if SLP doesnt put them on there.

Here is my "SS". It is an "exotic" combo IMO, has a 327/300+ motor and of course it's on steroids hehehehe. Therefore, I think it's capable of being called an SS. Check out the badges!!!

hey CHEVYBOY91 missing a front lug bolt/nut?
yeah i saw that. my S10 is the same. but nice car but the whole SS thing. i dont know.

i had thought about it once. but its not for me. well atleast not on this car. maybe my next thirdgen, which will be a 1992 Hugger Orange 305TPI/5spd, hardtop. maybe for that car, but it will have to go under long consideration since they werent really made and why make your own OPTION package. if you are gonna change it why not shave the old rocker emblems off and then get the new SS badges from 4th gens and adhere them there!

well that is just my opinion. and keep up the pics guys.
but dont get me wrong the SS hood is so awesome!!

Well, thats basically what we do when we 'mod' our cars, isn't it? Adding options that the factory didn't offer? I'm not advocating 'false badging' your car, but at the same time, a well done 3rdgen 'SS' would be sweet!

Heh thats exactly what im doing: byebye rocker emblems, got the passenger side done and workin on the drivers side, but im going to be using the 4th gen chrome "Z28" emblems from RKSport on the fenders, with 91-92 style high rise spoiler and hood blisters.

thats what im doing but i was gonna use the ss emblems.. i thought that if people made some like ours were they'd look more authentic, but since i dont think people do i guess im stuck with the 4th gen badges.

About who makes those emblems... they were probably custom. My friends dad makes stuff like that. Last winter the camaro emblems in the middle of the center caps fell off the car. So I when to GM and they wanted $22 each. So I talked to my friends dad and he said he could do it. Well, now all four center caps have a chevy symbol in them. I'm sure he could make SS one two. All four wheels, plus a couple extras cost me $10 with the contact glue on em'

what are your emblems made out of ?

i wonder what he'd charge to do some ss badges using the style that the 3rd gen RS and Z28 badges are done in.

then again couldnt it be argued that a ***** could take his/her integra and make it type R worthy and put on type R stickers? But dont we make fun of them for having the stickers without looking inside the hood?

Dunno what he'd charge, I suppose it wouldn't be much. He made them out of Clear plastic, and I have no idea what kinda of ink or backing he used to do the symbol. never asked. It looks like the originals though, except a chevy symbol instead of saying camaro. I wouldn't suggest trying to order them through him or anything though... unless you live in BC, Canada. It wouldn't be worth it considering if you look around locally, someone else probably makes the same kinda thing. Try places that make signs... that's what his main thing is.

nah, because domestics dont live by the following rule

1 sticker = 5hp increase.

therefore the type R wouldnt work in the above situation
