Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

Well after 3 years and many many many phone calls and headaches.....
I have finally installed my drop spindles from AJE

Although they were not quite a direct bolt in replacement out of the box, the install went quite smoothly. The details will be left out because I do not recommend these to anyone. Although they work fine, the hassle (of trying to get all the right parts) is not worth it. But since I had them I thought I'd make them work.

I'm happy I finally have it done!!

Now should I leave it with this stance? Or should I lower the rear also?

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

I think it sits wayy to low for my taste, But to each their own, i would also drop the rear it just looks plain odd when it is leaning on the front like that.

Please lower the rear, IMO, it looks goofy with the back end of the car sitting up like that

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

It is definitely lower then I was expecting it would be. Took it out for a ride tonight...

Need to trim the air dam. And I think my 2" spacers are a bit much now. I'll probably have them turned to 1 1/2 and hopefully that will eliminate the fender rubs without effecting the backspacing too much. And there is rub with the wheel fully turned but thats not a big deal.

Are struts necessary when dropping the rear?

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

Rear are shocks.., if you drop the back the front may come up a bit maybe. Are you using stock coils in front or dropped ones?

Front is all stock. Just the spindles.

Is a shock upgrade critical?

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

prob could ge by on a new set of iroc springs, would stiffen and raise the front end a tad, old springsare most likely sagging and soft causing more problems.

If your rear shocks are dead I would up grade to a better set, if not it may be bouncy.

front springs I would use V8 springs.

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

Yea, no big issue if it only rubs at full lock. You could use some Moog 5660 or 5662 they have a higher spring rate and would bring you up probably an inch, ur pretty low man probably only 2 1/2" for pipe clearance. Why'd u decide on dropped spindles? If this is ur daily driver and u match the back to the front ur going to be draggin over something everyday. Later.

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

when i first got my car it was lowered from the previous owner. on the ride home from buying it, I must have scraped my air dam on the highway about 20 times. then when i got home and started looking, i realized that both inner fenders were worn throu in spots. in my opinion, lowered cars are not for the road. i would get some v8 springs ASAP you could even get some IROC or WS6 ones off ebay to lift it. I ended up getting some used springs from camaroheaven. cheep quick easy and they do the trick! good luck.

too low in the front , raise the front a little with the springs , the rear could come down a little too but the front is too damn low.

How much were those spindles? Where did you get them from? And, what type of modifications needed to be done and how much were the modifications in the long run? Thanks I really want to do something like this.

was having trouble deciding on what to do to raise the front. so for now i have coil spring boosters in and it actually worked out pretty well.

88camaroluvr check out the racecraft ones. they should be a direct bolt in replacement.

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

So you installed drop spindles to lower the car, then you installed coil spring "bosters" to raise it up

I'm not quit understanding why you installed the drop spindles then? How much drop did the spindles give you? And how much did the coil spring "booster" raise it?

OK, so the boosters are just temp fix until you find the right springs to put in.

Dropped spindels are better than drop springs, or better dropped spindels with coil over setup like me.

I put dropped spindles on my S-10, but I didn't realize he was using the booster just a quick fix, until he buys new springs.

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

Any updates on the car? Looks great with the front lowered! I don't think it's too low...it's great with a bit of the front tires inside the fender! Yes, the C6 rims with 2" spacers are a bit much for such a lowered car. Stock 16" IROC rims would be best. I'm sure it drives really well with it lowered like that! Actually, a back to front rake is good aerodynamically. I know guys would rather have a level 3rd gen, but if you look at all the newer hi perf. cars, they are slanted front to back with the rear higher....even most MB's and even the newer mustangs.
BTW, were those 2" drop spindles?

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

That's what i did to my car also I put in the dropped spindles years ago back in 1995 but last year when I added the eibach sportline springs it was waaay to low in the front so I had to add a 1" spacer but then I also cut a coil off of the back to help it even it out and it raised the front an additional 1/2".

So take a coil off the back now and it will sit nicely!

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

Heres an update. I figured id try a set of lowering springs- my reasoning is that typically they are designed for v8s. having a v6 and fiberglass hood, and being under the assumption my springs were worn out, i was expecting an amount of lift from the new springs along with a stiffer ride. also if i bought a new set (say over buying just new front v8 springs and cutting if they were too high) i would be able to drop the rear as well

well i went with dropzone springs mainly because of the price. after installing those the car sat even lower then in does in the first picture. its was bottomed out just sitting there.

so i just swapped out the homemade looking AJEs with my stock spindles and am more then happy with the results.

here is a picture with stock spindles and dropzone springs up front. still have to install the rears

and it rides much better now! the dips in the road that used to spell tragedy dont phase it anymore

oh yeah, i also swapped the 2" spacers for 1.5". tires arnt being cut by the fenders anymore, just have to be careful of rubbing at full lock

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

O man i want drop spindles bad. I have Eibach lowering springs but i want AJE drop spindles and then 1.5" spring spacers to bring the front back to Eibach height. Spindles keep the correct suspension geometry. Right now my control arms sit flat... thats bad.

OK my questions:

What size are those rims (diameter and width and offset)? Do the drop spindles come near the inside edge of rim? Can u take pictures of the spindles and the clearances. PLEASSEEE. Thanks.

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

sorry dont have any more pictures of the spindles since i took them off.

wheels are 18x9 with a 7.00" backspace +50mm offset

from my experience i would have to guide you away from aje's spindles and suggest racecraft's spindles.

ok yeah ill probably go Racecraft. I was just wondering if they would raise the rim up too much that the spindle will rub the inside of the rim... i have 17x9 zr1s

Good question... Will the racecraft spindles for stock style steering rub on anything such as the stock 16" IROC wheels with stock size tires as well as the wheel size he mentioned above?

Re: Drop Spindles Installed! (AJE)

Considering the RC Spindle are more improved over stock spindles, I do't see any problems occurring. Look for ebmiller's thread on the RC drop spindles in which he has made brakes kits and such to use on them, and has also gone in depth with the steering stops. He might know what will and won't fit.

This help? From RC description.

The spindles utilize C4, C5, LS1 factory brakes and any aftermarket brakes (Strange Engineering) that use a caliper bracket that bolts to the drilled and tapped dust cover holes on a factory spindle. These spindles include aluminum spacers for the factory strut flange.

Although they work fine, the hassle (of trying to get all the right parts) is not worth it. But since I had them I thought I'd make them work.

I'm happy I finally have it done!!

Now should I leave it with this stance? Or should I lower the rear also?
