I like everything in black, lol. Its just hard to keep black looking great. A gunmetal gray would look good too.

Re: Best color for 87' Formula?
Mine is also an 87 Formula. The body work was finished a week ago. I went with a dark blue. The pictures suck and I have to do some clean up from where the shop did the sand and buff but it's a really nice blue in person and at night it's real dark. I don't recall the paint code but I was going to call the shop later and get it from them.

Re: Best color for 87' Formula?
Mine's not an 87, and it's red, so my obvious choice should be red lol, but I think yellow looks sick on the 87-90 Formulas like Mike_Cs. That would be my personal choice. That or red lol

I'm not looking at a very expensive job, but my car already is red so that would be the easiest..
but I'm really starting to like black :/

Well my T/A is red but im actually a huge fan of the Maui Blue. I saw a really nice Formula in that color at a show and just fell in love.

A Formula with a 2.8, I thought all formulas came with a V8. The 87 was the LG4, last year you could get carbed version.

Re: Best color for 87' Formula?
I said formula because its the most identical to my car thus giving me the best idea of what will look good.
And thanks to you guys who had input. I'm actually liking that gunmetal gray color on the mazda.
and the Electric Blue pearlcoat!

Re: Best color for 87' Formula?
Thats EXACTLY the red i was picturing. I figure i could do just a respray because my car already is red. And just the exterior has faded over time. So its the easiest option
Is that just GM bright red?
Btw: Be careful, some people may notice that's not a Trans-am.

Re: Best color for 87' Formula?
I found this thread today, as I'm researching what color code of yellow to paint mine I just got last week.
The maui blue is nice that it has, but it's needing repaint.
I like the formula's in yellow, only a few cars look good in yellow to me and this is one.
But it looks good in quite a few colors. My son did recommend the olive green,..with camo yesterday. So I guess there are a few who like that idea. A pickup maybe, but a firebird?
I'm trying to see what the original color is, sundance yellow is what I'm coming up with. But in some pictures it seems to look a little "faded" as original. Like the picture in this thread. I want something more yellow. If someone has an idea what yellow color looks good, but not silly in yellow paint codes please let us know. I want mine to look the same shade of yellow like in this ad. So which shade is more correct in person, like other one in this thread or this one?

Re: Best color for 87' Formula?
I think you will be happiest going with the original shade of red.
If you want attention you could do like this firebird owner and put a firetruck hood ornament on it:

Re: Best color for 87' Formula?
This is an O L D thread, but I will add some input here...
Red is the most overused color on ANY sports car/coupe, period. It's boring. Especially since my family would have had 3 red cars (93 Cavalier and 00 Grand Prix in Bright Red) if my Bird had fully been dressed in it's original Flame Red (was 2/3 primer when bought... Found out why last year ).
I know that in my rebuild thread I said I was going with a Charcoal metallic... Found out there is no such animal and the paint color I was referring to is Carbon Flash Metallic. Going black on black here with Flame Red Metallic (IIRC, have to double check) stripes down the side and red trim inside.
