A descent pic of color changing paint

I've seen a few people ask about it a couple of times and over the weekend the Frog Follies passed through. I caught the 1st car I'e actually seen this look good on at the show.

http://www.angelcities.com/members/g...ise/b/ff31.jpg

I know it's not 3rdgen,, but it's the best example (that actually looks good) I have seen to date.

I've got pics from Carlisle of a Trans Am painted that color. I wouldn't want it on my car, but it's neat just the same.

A RS at my school has that paint, but it doesn't look anything like that. It looks like it had stripes at one time and it melted into the body color. It looks really bad.

I have some pics of that trans am at carlisle too, it was a pretty sweet car. I will post if I ever get a scanner. Does anyone have any pics of the 91/92 Z on popular hot rodding tv? It had that paint too, supposedly it's like $600 a pint.

That Camaro on PHR looked a lot better than the TA at Carlisle. The camaro didn't seem to ever change to green. It just stayed in the blue/purple/red spectrum. My biggest bitch about that color is that it's too dramatic of a shift. Supposidly Dupont has a series out that only shifts between a couple colors. They've got a red out that turns orange in the light. If I knew about it before I painted my car...

Personally, I think that paint is some of the ugliest stuff that I have seen, but then again, it isnt my car.... I'm more of a solid color fan. It is very rare that I actually like any 2-tone cars, or cars with stripes.

That hood idea rocks though!! I wonder how hard that would be to do to the formula...
It would seem to make access to the engine a whole lot easier..

That probably turns some heads at car shows and such.... then again, there is the twin 'chargers to help out with that as well!

Later...

I've seen several cars around here painted like that.

Frankly I don't care for it being all over the car. It's too much going on all at the same time.

To me, it looks much better as an accent paint. A friend of mine has chromalusion on the chrome of his Falcon and it's very nice.
It makes you do a double take when you look at the car. The rest of the car is solid color.

The flames done in chromalusion are nice, but have been done to death.
If anyone is considering doing something with this paint then I'd suggest doing something that hasn't already been done with the paint.

This is one of those where a little goes a long way and a lot is an eye sore.

Just my thought on the subject.

I hate purple and magenta color changes. The best color is a nice irridescent blue and green. They come as a special edition color on 4th gen Firebirds, don't they?

Then they're putting a serious screwin on you. You can get that stuff at any paint shop for about $550-600 a quart.

yep, there is a buick that has a stock setup like that can't remember the year or model though they all looked the same in those years.

as far as the paint, dupont wholesales it at $80 if you can get it through a dealer at a paint shop at their cost it's under $200 and if you go to the counter it's around $400-600 depending on who orders it for you.
ppg is a little more costly though. now you want to talk expensive try to get ahold of steve saleen's color changing paint........

I was considering it myself at one point, would have saved me half the cost of my paint, but people told me it would look to busy as well as these cars don't look so hot in different shades of pink. Except for the fact that it turns heads, once you've seen it it's not that sharp looking. although i guess that's just my opinion.......but for show style it's nice i suppose (definately an attention getter).

Other than the cost of the paint itself, it's one of the easiest colors to paint a car as well as repair if anything goes wrong; so if some shop trys to say it should cost more in labor than other paints they are trying to rip you off.
