Tinted tail lights = awesome!
Just did my tail lights...
-wetsanded w/ 400grit
-vht nightshades two coats
-wet sanding w/1000 grit
-clearcoat
-polish
-turtlewax
they look nice and black until you turn the lights on, and it comes through really clear

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
Did you convert your amber lens to red first, before tinting it? Or just leave it as amber?

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
I found a guy that will tint them for me for 20 bucks, and I buy the spray. He is doing my tails, side markers and front turn signals. Is 20 a fair price?

@1988GTA500HP
i will try to get a night picture tonight
@RK82
thanks, i am from langley, about 1/2h from vancouver
@Dirks92CamaroRS
yeah that is definatelly a fair price, as long as he is gonna do a good job. once you add up the price of sandpaper, and the amount of time you would be spending sanding and cleaning, 20bucks is a great deal.

Yep if I didn't have time, I would pay that. Still I would prefer to do it myself and have me mess it up than someone else.

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
How are cop attention meters with these? I have only seen a few tinted around here and they did a horrible job but yea do you guys get the wrong attention from the cops? I don't want to get a ticket and have to end up going to court and fighting the ticket and saying their visible from the required distance needed to be ok.
I tried looking up or contacting the local police station via the site but for my surprise it does not work.

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
Did you spray them from the outside? I want to do mine exactly like yours. I assume you taped off the grid so you could retain the black grid lines? That's perfect. I'll also we adding a touch to VHT tint to darken them after I get them red. Probably just one coat.

yeah the klearz is just too expensive. Looks good but sometimes I wish I'd just nightshaded mine instead of going the klearz route

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
I sprayed them from the outside, didn't wanna take them apart but they would probably turn out glossier if I sprayed them from the inside. The nightshade tends to be a little dull. I did 2 coats of nightshade depending on the time of day they look different in cooler and I did tape the grids off and used a blade to cut the tape

. Got pulled over 3 times in one night, Apparently my lights weren't visible from 200 feet which is the law in NC. No ticket but the last officer actually followed me all the way home to make sure I was safe. So I LOVE the look but BE CAREFUL!!!!! For some reason 3rd Gens seem to be Cop Magnets!!

VHT Red to delete the amber, then 2 light coats of VHT Niteshade, then 4 coats of clear, 2000 grit wetsanding, Meguire's PlastX, and Meguire's Gold Class paste wax:

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
that looks good. I am going to get a spare set of lights and do this myself. Of course on my 89 RS lights, not the grids. I am not a grid guy. I am going to get some translucent red to turn the amber red and then do a coat or two of nightshades, maybe just one to get them a little darker.

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
1 coat really isn't going to cover well. Niteshades speckles quite a bit and to get an even coating, you'll either have to do 2 light coats, or one heavy one.

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
Is that your new paint job man? Looks awesome. I followed your Youtube videos for a while, that thing has come a long way and looks perfect now. I still lol at your old open headers video, it was neat.

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
You can, but you need to be careful wetsanding it because using a spraycan might look consistant, but it's definitely not even if you hit the surface area evenly. You'll start splotching and pulling the tint out fairly easily, even with fine grit paper.

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
Yeah, the paint came out really great. It went on last June I believe it was. The car is progressing pretty good. I don't know if you have seen the most recent videos, but in the 1/8th it's at 8.29 @ 85.2 with a 1.84 60'. The goal is a 7.9x by the end of the season lol. Anyway, this weekend I am going to be taping the entire car off and wrapping the engine and painting the bay as best I can. With the rest of the car looking as good as it does, I can't stand looking under the hood and seeing 25 years of grime, chipping paint, and muck anymore lol.

Re: Tinted tail lights = awesome!
Haha, yeah yeah. I didn't really think about painting the engine bay when the engine was out *DO'H* I'll take my time and get 'er done tho. I put a 10x20 sheet over the car last night to start taping it off - looks like a giant condom lol. I don't think that condom would hold it back, though =P
