Brighter Headlights

I was wondering if it is even possible to find HID headlights or just anything brighter than the stock ones as a matter of fact....I live in the middle of nowhere Idaho and it gets pitch black out here and my lights just aren't doing the job as much as they used to...if anyone knows where to get some bright HID's or an easy mod that would be amazing.

You haven't run a at all, have you? There is LOT of threads about brighter headlights. From drop ins like Sylvania Silverstars (which I use & live in the middle of nowhere) to HID retro fits.

Re: Brighter Headlights

Just installed silstars in my bird. I noticed about double the vision range as compared to new hlogen replacements. When the brights are on I can see much much farther.just to see the differance I installed a single bulb while standing in the original lights beam path the new light totally overpowered the stock type beam. I give them my vote 100% and vouch for them

I have some of those silverstars in my cougar. I can tell there better the light is more of a white light, but my girlfriend says they suck. Im partly to blame because I hyped them and they were pretty expensive even on sale. She also notices the better color of light but is not satisfied with the over all brightness, I partly agree with her. Silverstars are the best light you can get on your car without upgrading anything, and will do just as good are maybe better than some of those harness melting higher wattage lights. However if you are wanting something more than just a modest improvement you will have to either slap on some (fog/driving lights) or go with hids. Heres something else to consider many people buy hids for fashion not functionality. If you dont get the right color you might be worst off than you are now. They sell non sealed headlight on ebay for H4 bulbs just retro fit the hids in those, I think they also sell them with projectors which is a must for hids,it controls the light pattern. Another thing if you do get the silverstars it states on the package that the bulbs lose brightness over time as with all bulbs, but to what extent and time im not sure. Didnt mean to quote to your post Chrome Phoenix. Also be carefull of cheap headlight housings and hid kits, im not really sure how but do your research, im doing mine headlights are next on my list.

The replacment bulb only I tried in my dads taho dident really do much same for my volvo big rig. But the glass style replacment bulb/lense unit on my chevy pickup toyota mr2 and firebird have been utterly impressive. I'm not sure what the differance is but sidee by side with either of thos bulb only replacments is blown away by the sealed glass housing style and the lenses weren't fogged or damaged

Re: Brighter Headlights

You could also try what I did. I replaced the inner hi-beam only bulbs with a pair of outer hi/lo-beam bulbs. Grabbed some connectors(and the bulbs too actually) off a Camaro in the local U-Pull and wired them up. Cost me all of $4 for 2 bulbs and connectors. I also installed relays for both hi and lo beams to power them directly from the battery, not off the headlight switch. Now its like driving with my hi-beams on all the time, even with just the lows on.

I live out in the country too, and every day to get home from work I have to drive down an unlit forest-lined road thats full of deer. I also installed a set of driving lights last summer, and they helped, but nothing like what I have now. Only problem I've had is every once in a while a driver coming the other way thinks I have my hi-beams on since all 4 lights are on and flashes their lights at me. I just flash them back to show them it really is my lo-beams

That is so freakin sweet I never thought about that, is it legal and can you make a diagram im a tard when it comes to wiring sometimes. Also you know how if you pull and hold back the hi beam lever it illuminates the high and lows until you let go and then just the highs or on. Can you wire it to where the lows/high are on at the same time when on high beam. Cool mod.

I have heard so many good things about the silverstars on here I also wondered if the sealed beam silverstars where exceptionaly good on camaros.

Diagram attached below. I have made so many changes to the electrical systems on my Camaro that I long ago started diagramming everything just so I know what I did and can troubleshoot any problems.

As for legality, it will depend on your local inspection laws. I did include a switch in the diagram that will turn off the inner 2 low beams if you need it that way to pass inspection. Just put it somewhere hidden.

Yes, only a slight change would be needed to have all the hi and lo beams on at the same time. Might produce too much heat though, shortening bulb life.

I posted above about them & I like my Silverstars in my GTA. Doesn't mean that I'm not looking into a HID conversion, but the Silverstars are still nice pieces.

I put Silverstar bulbs in my fog lights too.

Re: Brighter Headlights

I made my lights 10x brighter by just adjusting them correctly for once.

Silverstars are the minimum any vehicle should have and when I first installed them, correctly adjusted them, I had cars flash their lights at me on the highway on a regular basis. I didn't think they seemed that bright though.

Euro Hella H4 conversions from Summit are the best for a non-HID setup - Better beam pattern. Intially cost about 3x as much as a pair of Silverstars but as long as the housing doesn't break all you have to replace is the H4 bulb. I don't know if you can find decent H4 bulb for cheap though.

Re: Brighter Headlights

im gonna be toying with hids in a few weeks, since ive had so much down time at the shop we're all just working on our own stuff for now, and since i just finished my stereo...i need to move on to lighting lol im gonna polish my tail lights first but the HID bug has hit me hard, i have trouble seeing in the city some times because the dim street lights throw off my headlights and its normally raining, with crappy paint on the road, HID's seem to be the only solution

I might try retrofitting some Hid's.

I bought a kit that lets me run all 4 lights on in high on my 97 chevy truck. I imagine it would be easy to install in a Camaro too. Just a relay, tapping into the light wires, connecting to the battery, and a ground.

HIDs all the way ! do the conversion and pick up a good HID kit, plug and play and you wont ever go back to a reg bulb again.

I have a 94 GMC Sierra and saw those kits too. That's where I got the idea for the Camaro. Those kits are WAY overpriced for what you get, IMHO.

I'm eventually going to replace my outer low beam bulbs(55 watts), with high beam bulbs(65 watts) on my truck. Then wire them so all 4 stay on while the highs are on. I just need to pick up the bulbs, bulb connectors, and a relay.

I thought about that, but I don't like the way the HID lights look. And I have yet to see a projector light mod that looks good on a thirdgen.

That, and what I did cost me less than $10 for everything. Including the bulbs which I pulled from a local junkyard.

I've seen your thread before on it. And while I can certainly appreciate the work that goes into something like that, its just not for me. As bright as they are, I can't get over what they look like when they are off. The round bulb in the rectangular housing doesn't match the squared-off, angular lines of a thirdgen Camaro and that makes them look like a retrofit. I'm not knocking your choice or your work, its just not for me.
