Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
I'm in work on painting my turn signals with Nightshade paint. That way when the lights are not on, they appear black (my car is black also) yet they still illuminate in the correct color to maintain legality. I have 'em painted but haven't installed them on the car yet. I'll post pics when I do. I spent about $10 including the paint.

Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
I used the nightshades...it came out okay on the turn signals...I changed the side markers to black ones and I like that..but my favorite was installing the bowtie grille. It cost me 68 dollars, installed in about an hour. (cause I painted behind it, and I had to drill holes for the clips to hold the grille in) But I love the way my front end looks. But I also have not taken a picture of it yet!

Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
Cheap upgrades? Are we talking performance, appearance....Some peoples vision of cheap is much different than others view of cheap. I dont like CHEAP upgrades, most of the time any CHEAP upgrade I see that has been done is not actually an upgrade at all.
In my opinion, the best cheap upgrade on my car was shaving and smoothing my engine bay. For me it was cheap because I own a Engine stand, hoist, MIG, 55gallon compressor, asst of air tools/guns.
It cost me a few weekends. Under $100 for dupont paint, catalyst, reducer, primer. About another 50$ for wire wheels, zirc abrasive pads, and flap discs, and about $60 for body filler.
Around $200 got me a fully shaved bay, and painted. To me that is cheap for what it is.

Car: Too many cars
Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
Since you have a TBI car im not so sure performance wise, maybe a CAI- cold air intake, chip , exhaust. Im not sure about a TBI spacer, youll have to ask the TBI guys.
Also a upper strut bar, wonder bar, struts/shocks & a good drop.
If you can save the paint a good polish & wax.
Post some pics so we can give you a better route to take. Hope this helps.

Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
first, if its got miles, spend the money to refresh your suspension - these things wear out and new shocks/struts/springs can make a world of difference. not super cheap, but can be done in stages and very noticeable
then exhaust - was lucky enough to score a catback used from a member here for under $200 and very happy with it

Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
well my plan is to swap out the motor next winter, i just dont know with what yet. something that wont be too much of a headache. i hear swapping anything in from that 5.0 tbi is a real pain in the ***. the exhaust needs to be done but id have to make sure it could swap over to a new motor. but for the tbi iv heard something aboyt a hooker aerochamber axuast sounding loud. i just cant seem to find one

Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
a catback will be a good start; good upgrade for any engine on these cars and will breathe right for when you go to a bigger motor. I loved the hooker catback I had on my last 3rd gen, sounded really deep without being overkill loud at idle.
the easiest upgrade from the 5.0 tbi would be a 5.7 tbi. not too much to change; same harness, slightly different knock sensor, different injectors, and a different tune. you could get away without retuning the computer, but you won't get the most out of the upgrade. more "hassle", more reward. at least that's what I'm hoping for when I get done with the headache of an LSx swap I got myself into

Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
Well here's my car with Niteshade paint on tail lights and front marker and turn lights. 14.99 for paint plus rubbing alcohol, sandpaper pad, etc. Took minutes to do, longest part is getting all your plastic off to reach the rear tail lights and then waiting for paint to dry. Then my fav was the Magnaflow cat and cat back, 380.00 for cat back and about 78.00 for the Magnaflow hi-flow cat. Still in the process of replacing all those damaged parts and getting a new paint job.

Re: Best Cheap Upgrades
Other than the Bow tie grill I would have to say that replacing the old tired front turn signals with the 1A-Auto set was what really finished off the front of the car.(I also fixed the hood gap in the photo)Heres a link to the set = http://www.1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/...PP00008/271776
