Paint Job what color etc??

well, i am going to look at a 12 second 85 Z28 tommorow

i talked to the owner and he said that the car could use a paint job

now the car is currently black, so in my mind i could get it painted a diferent color and not worry about underhood, etc.... cuz it wont look weird cuz underhood it will be black..........

now here are the 3 colors are i am thinking about: candy orange, yellow, or silver

now here is where most of you will wanna hang me: i am prolly gonna get the job done at Maaco............RELAX.......i had my 1991 done there over a year ago and it still gets compliments.....no fading, chipping, etc.
i didnt get the cheap $189 either though..........

how hard is it to do my own prep work?
if i was to get the paint off, would Maaco put a primer on it for me B4 they paint?

cuz i have no way of putting a primer on myself............i can prolly only even barely get away doing the paint removal in my driveway becuz of my parents

does Maaco offer a paint job where they will do the prep work? if so, how much?

what color do you think would be coolest?

Hey. I used to work at Maaco and they had the best painter I've seen short of custom painters. We did a 74 Vette with a big block in one of the Dupont Mystique colours (which most paint shops wont even try) and it came out Flawless. This guy is way better than the guy who painted my car and my car came out awesome and I was the detailer so I got to drive it afterwards!. It all depends on the people at that particular shop.
As far as colour goes, get silver. The orange and Yellow, may look cool at first, but if you gotta look at it everyday you'll get sick of it, and they are fad colours, so eventually it will just be tacky. And match the colour of your interior. If interior is red or tan, yellow and orange will be digusting

Orange and yellow fad colors?? Heh.....yeah ok. But yeah...I think you should go with silver...cool color...not many thirdgens have it...and flyin is right about the interior looking disgusting unless you match it with the exterior.

No offence but whats the fun in buying a 12 second car. I my self would much rather build it myself. Just dont take the credit for the car. Cause you had nothing to do with it. To make it worse your parents are probally paying for half or more of the car. But its you money, so what ever floats your boat. Bobby.

I think silver and orange look the best. Silver with orange stripes can look pretty sweet when done right.

1991tealRSt-topGuy,
first off I would like to say that the car sounds bad ***! Second is that paint sticks better to paint. I have many friends who do custom jobs and have told me this a countless number of times. Only primer places on the car that you have worked on. Third- Go with either silver or Pepper grey metallic. might look nice-just a suggestion...check my sig. The color has a metallic flake and looks almost goldish silver in the sun!!!

I'd have to say silver as well. I like FlyinLow89's car alot so I'm going with silver. Not to mention I am not a fan of Orange and only yellow car I've seen look good to date is MeanYellowZ's, well that and the new C5s.

While the topic is around, i was thinking of painting my 82 (gone 85-90 gfx) trans am a metallic silver base with a shot of white mica over it, then a few coats of clear. I was hoping for a shiny silver finish, and then the mica giving it a brilliant white shine in the right light. What do you guys think it would look like, and would it look good?
