Yes, nothing is dipped on that car. It belongs to member Downshift . All props go to him for having a sweet sweet ride. I just like that he went with gold on red, unusual but classic combination.

Adding a little black to my hood to mask the scoop..
Bought the car with this Frankenstein hood lol going to get replaced soon...
Scoop belonged to a 2nd gen and the previous owner thought it would be a cool look

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
As for the plasti dip I love the stuff so easy to apply and removing is the same, except for overspray.
Here is a complete shot of the car with the plasti dipped scoop
Here's my 5th gen that I used plasti dip on the lower air damn, hood snout, camaro lettering and the rear trunk blackout.

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
I did my entire car last week. my paint was tri tone because of an accident and i didn't want to drop $3000 on new paint until i get my new hood and front fenders. here's the result.. sorry if the link doesn't work..it has glossifier on top of two coats of gunmetal with black tint. it came out better than i expected it to honestly. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...new-paint.html

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
Wow dude I'm impressed with that. I was thinking of doing the same but either in aluminum or just gunmetal grey. My paint is mostly O.K. but it would be nice to see it a different color while offering some slight protection from the elements. That looks pretty sweet though I juts did my headlight eyelets in black and it came out really nice.

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
thanks! i'm happy with it. it looks mean on the road at night. I'd recommend trying it. If you have a compressor and a HVLP gun it only takes about 5 hours to spray the entire thing. I had my car back on the road the next day. And i actually almost did aluminium too, it's a really cool color.

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
Im in the process of peeling the plastidip off my hood. Kind of a frustrating experience. The problem is the hood is a fairly large piece so I was tempted to just get good enough coverage and call it a day. Plastidip peels very well when it's thick enough to overcome its own adhesion before it breaks. So I've had to peel and recoat and peel and recoat. Where it's thick it peels nicely, where it's thin... it doesn't.
So, as counterintuitive as it may seem ,fi you want to remove the stuff, just add more coats. The more coats the easier it is.
Also, I really dont like the glossifier much. I think it takes a lot of coats to make that stuff really "shine", and you need your original coat of plastidip to be pretty smooth. The glossifier is much thinner so its a little trickier to spray on also. Needs a lot of coats and the effect is pretty subtle.
I'm definitely a huge fan of this stuff, just some observations.

Yeah, like you say the more coats the better. The standard seems to be about 4-6 coats starting off really light then going on heavier each coat. The idea is to create a base for the rest of the coats to grab on to then you can kind of start putting it on heavy. This stuff doesn't drip it comes down like a landslide.

Did my rims, subwoofer, and front bumper a year and a half ago. The rims are easy to clean, did about 5 good coats on it, havent had a reason to peel it off yet, it looks great, and is pretty damn durable on rims.
Front bumper held up well, not as well as the rims, but thats because i only had enough to do 2 or 3 coats. Youd want at least 6 good coats if not more and itll hold up great. Anybody who lives in florida knows how bad love bugs are. More coats will more or less last longer, but the key to peeling is thicker coats. You dont want to dust anything but that first layer, the rest you can go pretty thick without making it run.
I experimented with it and thicker coats are best for durability and easy peeling when you take it off. Do a couple tests with it, youll see.
Gonna redo my bumper and see how it holds up thicker.
Come to think of it, i may just plastidip the black up top cause its almost an exact match to satin black.

I recently did a whole car Plastidip job, including wheels and tailights.
I'll post some pics once I have the owner's permission, or get him to post them up himself(he is a member).

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
I plastidipped the inserts in my 82 hood...
The only way I've found to get clean lines is to just dust the base and then avoid your tape as much as possible until right before you pull it. Then you do as heavy a coat as you can get away with and peel immediately... I had a couple of edges peel up so I basically rubbed them off while they were still wet, retaped that spot and spot sprayed it.... I think it worked because it was still soft. Not perfect, but decent.
This is the hood I was peeling dip off of a few posts back... I buffed it out and it turned out servicable... the paint doesnt exactly match, though.

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
plastidip is so overrated it looks horrible on the cars and a cheap alternative and you should not own a Camaro!!!!
All things I was told when I dipped my car over a year ago bahahaha I have only done touch up on her but she looks just as good as when I first dipped her in NOV 2013

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
"Anthracite" gray... I think it's too dark.
I used a cardboard cutout template (Doesnt have to be exact at all) and index cards to spray mine.
I will let these roll as is for a while... but Im torn as to whether I should just spray them metallic silver and go for the stockish look or go for vintage gold. The Anthracite is just too dark to me. I wanted something more gray than black. I think it'd be great as an accent color for IROC wheels though...

Black Plasti Dip on Bilsteins. Yellow is NOT my color, nor my car's color. Supposedly crack and chip resistant, and people use it on wheels, so why not shocks? Might try it on coils too.
Also perfect on the rubber shock boots, completely flexible, as if molded in black. Yeah, the Bilstein blue had to go too.

I would say stay with darker color it brings the black light buckets grill and tinted tails together .

Im really excited about this... I just got done playing with "pearlizer" on my anthracite wheels. So far Im really excited. Not sure if it's a slam dunk yet, I'll know better after I get it in the sunlight and can get all 4 wheels the same shade.

I believe it does not peel off like plastidip, so be careful what you test it on. I have heard its a real $(&-% to get off if its what I think you have.

Thinking about doing the vht on my tails, neat little trick, spray them with clear plastidip first so the vht can be peeled off. Plastidip is great stuff.

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
If you wanna go crazy and have purple wheels, you can do that. It needs 5-7 coats to peel off easily, but it's very forgiving and cheap. Holds up a lot better than any rattle can paint I've ever seen in the elements. Doesn't fade much, if any.
Yea I only did a couple coats just for the hell of it. Im gonna powdercoat them soon if the plastidip doesnt hold up. Ive had my wheels plastidipped for awhile now with no problems, also did my sub too. Front bumper would have held up better if I did more coats.

Also, maybe you should see if this will work? I'd be curious... I'd like to use them on my parking/side marker lights.

Re: The Plasti Dip Thread!
Just make sure to clean the surface really well (obviously) I have read about and had good results with simple green both in surface prep and maintenance cleaning. For my rims, normal car soap wasn't cleaning it...they would look faded and still dirty. Yesterday when I washed my car I just sprayed the rims with simple green and wiped it off and they were back to new looking. I would recommend 5-7 really light coats or 3-5 "stouter" coats. Good luck and experiment! If you don't like it just peel it off and it only cost about 10 bucks!
