This looks SO much better than the anthracite. If you look closely you can see the pearl effect in it. It covered up most of the metallic in the anthracite, so I guess this color could be accomplished by pearlizer over gun metal gray (no metal flake in that one, so I'd assume it's cheaper).

Your wheels and car look great.
Im thinking about getting the kit that restores aluminum finishes for my wheels...
+1 on the hood! The wheels came out nice too. Tasteful use of plasti tip. A little lowering will really tie this car together and put it over the top. Great looking ride!

I got the rear a little lower, but then I adjusted my rear konis up and swear it raised the rear a half inch over what it was. I've got my PHB relocation bracket on the way and as soon as I get that welded in the rear is going to come down farther. I've got a plan for weight jacks that I can throw together for about $300 but it may be a while before those go in the car. Probably going to get some extended ball joints first.
Do shoes as old as thirdgens count? I plasti dipped the tongues on these vintange 1988-89 Hi top converese cons. Barely worn since new over the years the plastic coating turned into flakes. Took 9 coats to seal the fabric. The end result is a rubbery factory like finish.
It was hard to get perfect but I am happy. This is one of many vintage 80s hi tops I have.

Curious, I am going to plasti-dip my GTA wheels soon.. Why? Because they came to me all silver, and they are going on a black car. With that said I have 2 questions.
1. The chrome around the wheel isn't the greatest, some curb rash and marks where they ripped the weights off, what to do about that?
2. Did you guys do the backside of the spokes or insert or anything else.
3. It's been awhile for the guys who did the GTA wheels, how you like it and how did it hold up?

I love it but I havent had to take it off yet... lol
it is hard to get the insides.. some areas I still havent done the way I want. 1. You must spray at odd angles.
2. Get the add on trigger from dipyourcar.com. your fingers will thank you.
3. there is a sticky on here about polishing rims.. I did not do that even though I had some scratches from the weights. I didnt trust myself. I DID use some light abrasive pad on it but just on the lip.. not really happy with that though.
4. buy the glossifier!!!! enuf said. it also wipes off easy so dont mask when doing it.. it will just wipe off the chrome lip.

Crosslace wheels are one of the few applications I'd DREAD spraying dip on. I have no idea how you'd be able to get that out of there when you take it off. You're almost stuck resorting to chemical methods of removal or just spraying more dip on top of it.

Do NOT sand or use abrasive ANYTHING before spraying plastidip. All your doing is making it harder to remove. Just spray the plastidip over the "trouble area". It will fill in the inperfections and you wont be able to see them.
I had a little curb rash on one of my rims, and your typical pits/scratches, and after I coated the wheels, you cant see any of it, they look brand new.
The ONLY prep you do for plastidip is cleaning grease/grime etc. You do not sand unless you want to fight to get it off. Plastidip needs a smooth, unprepped surface in order for it to peel off nicely. Another key point to using plastidip is use more than 5 coats, if you dont, its a bitch to peel off of any surface.
i am really interested in how it holds up. i know plastidip is good to about 300 degrees so it could bake a bit on hot days/shut down.
I dipped my entire spoiler yesterday
It holds up to underhood temps with a turbo just fine, no baking or bubbling. Though because I didnt do alot of coats, hitting it with a wrench in a couple spots peeled the plastidip, but that had nothing to do with the heat.
Has anyone had to plastidip over pin stripes? My Iroc has the stock pin stripes and I am worried about them showing up if I don't remove them.
Forunately my paint was already shot and the pin stripes were already crappy so I hit them with some 400 grit sandpaper and then wet sanded over them with some 1500. It feathered them out to where one there is about 5-6 coats on the car, you can barely see them.
If you are trying to cover texture or defects than you will need to fix those first. You can spray more over previous as long as you prep it correctly, but any defects you have will likely still show. I found a YouTube video last night where they sprayed xylene over textured areas to level it out. We have a few big spots on the roof and hood because of overspray that need fixed so gonna try it. Have nothing to lose.

not really any defects except not enuf coverage so I can see some gold poking thru. the car is rarely driven so not much prep needed. but it does have a coat of glossifier on top
Then you should have no problem. It would be way easier too cause you wouldn't need as much coverage coat wise (depending on color change of course) because you already have those layers down. They have tutorials on YouTube through dipyourcar.com if you want to see the prep needed, if you need them. They make it super easy.
My current plasti dip project. I was going to dip the wheels too, but once I cleaned them up good and we sprayed the car I realized that the aluminum looks pretty damn good as is!
Here she is in the full sun, dipped in anthracite grey metallic. We are still going to be spraying it with glossifier, but there are some texture defects we want to correct first so I will post pictures when we add those final touches. But for right now I'm in stoked with the turn out especially compared to before. Poor gal was peeling pretty bad on the hood and roof. I had to do something to halt rust. I also took the opportunity to take the side moldings off.

Thanks! I will start this in june. I will get the easy sprayer they added to the cans to get better coverage at dipyourcar.com. You can buy those add ons on amazon. I know my fingers were killing me when I did it last time. I think I will do them on the car this time and mask behind the rims like I have seen them do. Just dont want any on my paint
Nice bird by the way. I wont dip my car but yours sure looks well done!
You guys should check out ://www.haloefx.com/. Another company like plastidip but most installers I've heard prefer how this product lays down smoother than plastidip. I have one cost down and it's looking great. Much smoother than plastidip.
Nice! If I go to dip a full car again, or redo the bird in another color, I will have to check it out! Although since ours was a metallic, the imperfections stand out more than a matte color would. My husband wanted something different so he got it lol. Today we are working on the mechanical aspects. Gotta keep her all tuned up ❤️

From the looks of your pic, this stuff looks to be rolled on? Am I correct in assuming that?
For those who care to know. I recently plasti dipped the new rear bumper on my truck (brand new in grey) and wanted to get it out of the way after moving it around waiting to paint it. So temporarily I shot it with plasti-dip black and then shot duplicolor clear on top. 2 months and still holding up great.
Not sure I would recommend doing a whole car. But a small panel or area will work nice and still remove easily.
I was trying to get a better spray on my wheels last weekend and started with them on the car (protecting rotors etc) and forgot to shake up the can.. came out lumpy and then I tried to wipe it off then off came some of the original plastidip coating... now I will have to peel off and redo the entire wheel. sigh. at least its only one wheel. I will take the rest off as well and spray them properly. the moment I started to spray I realized my mistake but it was too late.. sigh.
I HAVE sprayed dip on cross lace wheels.....biggest mistake ever! It took me a week to get it all off.
I found that you can spray Goo Gone and it wipes right off!
Just decided to go back to Gold crosslaces for that nationals.
Here is a pic of how one looks compared. I was going to just fix the plastidip as I had a bit come off but since so easy to remove I will go back to Gold

Has anyone tried painting there whole care using just the spray cans ?
I wouldn't recommend it, you would need ALOT of cans plus the coverage isn't as good as using a spray gun. I used the gun on the car itself but used the cans for smaller or tight areas because I could control the application better, but doing the whole car would be a real pain in my opinion. Not saying it can't be done, but not something I'd attempt!
I did my headlight surrounds on my 92 RS. Originally they are red but I've always liked the black surrounds on the Z's. Not really true to the RS but I still like it. Also put a light coating over the faded emblem. My turn signals I used vinyl tint.
