Re: Miata's and ThirdGens..whos got the combo?

I realize that they handle real well, but there couldn't be a more feminine looking car. Especially the first gen ones, they look like chintzy plastic toy car junk IMO.

My guess is you won't find too many thirdgenners who also own Miatas, but I could be wrong.

My only advice to you, is that if you are indeed buying a first gen, I hope you have a thick skin because it is hilarious to see owners get mad when people tell them they have gay cars:

If you buy one of those, you have to fully accept and understand most people will make fun of you for it, car's merits or not...it looks horrendously cheap, fruity, and womanly.

Re: Miata's and ThirdGens..whos got the combo?

already accepted it and yea im getting a 96.. i could really give a **** what people say to be completely honest, i do me..

anyways
anyone?

and its usually the older crowd who ensure the bigotry of being called gay for driving a car they like..nothing wrong with being older but the younger generation is far more accepting and not so quick to jump
I don't care if people think it's a girl's car. They are just either too caught up with their macho image or ignorant to what the car is.

Re: Miata's and ThirdGens..whos got the combo?

I have a 92 camaro and my dad has a 90 Miata. He loves the thing. its pretty snappy for a 4 cyl with a 5 speed manual. It is red with a black drop top. It doesn't look too bad next to my blue camaro

Re: Miata's and ThirdGens..whos got the combo?

My room mate has one. Loves it. It's an NA with bilstein NB suspension, 6UL's and sometime he'll get the mazdaspeed turbo 1.8 in the garage in the thing. I think I only have one shot of all of our cars. My trans am, one room mate's 5.0 sn95 and the miata.

Aaaaaand I just remembered that shot is like 95% my car, 2.5% miata and 2.5% mustang. Haha.

Tell your friend to put the wing back on the Stang, the cars don't look right without 'em.

He bought it already shaved and the more I see it, the more I like it. Lowered on decent wheels it flows well.

love the way they look and feel..handle great and weigh nothing..plans would be to slam it on some nice wheels and leave the motor alone completely..

The cars do look a million times better lowered...I'll give you that the '94-'95s look better wingless than the '96-'98s since they have horizontal tails.

If you are getting one, at least lower it, put wheels on it, and paint it a non gay color.

would raise it up for track days and even for auto-x, they still handle fine slammed. for drifting though, many do it slammed, lower than that picture even. its crazy..

and thats what everyone said about my trans am and yet, it still handles great.
the best it could, of course not. but its a compromise for looking aggressive as all get up..

Re: Miata's and ThirdGens..whos got the combo?

hahaha Awesome. those pictures above said it well. There isn't one in my local SCCA that runs faster lap times than me on the road course. So i'll keep my car that doesn't look like a complete dousche-mobile and still handles.

Re: Miata's and ThirdGens..whos got the combo?

A friend of mine that I go autocrossing with a lot has one.

What do they look like together?

A man's muscle car, and a woman's barbie car

Lol, j/k. My friend loves it, and I have driven it at an autox a few times, and while yes it does stick amazingly well I'll never give up my Camaro for one.

Due to their light weight they have a huge under steer problem that you have to get used to, and it's really hard to get used to after coming from a 3400 lb camaro. They also just lack any real power. Even with a Flying Miata turbo kit, most of them are barely able to break 200 rwhp. Which is quite a lot for such a small car, but we are talking top end stuff investing 5 to 8k in the engine, something you can easily match in a camaro with a cheaper NA V8 engine.

There is also something to be said of coming out of a corner and getting on the gas and drowning out everything with the roar of your engine, instead of just some high pitched whine hehe.

But I will admit, I have only beaten a couple of stock Miata's since I started auto crossing. The ones set up for STR or STS usually beat me by a couple seconds. At the same time though, they usually have Extreme Performance tiers, where the best thing I've got is Ultra High performance tires on stock Iroc wheels. That's two tire classes lower, makes a pretty big difference in the ability to stick. If I ever get around to getting r-compounds on another set of wheels, I can probably close the gap a good bit. Although I think the Miata will still have the upper hand on most courses due to their small size and ability to turn faster on smaller courses.
