Engine detail tools!

I’m going to try these bad boys out I just found at good old Home Depot for gentle scrubbing hard to reach parts of the engine bay... Of course using as little liquid/cleaner as possible.. got some compressed air as well...

I think I’ll call one of these tools the “Under Runner Tunnel Scrubber”

They are very flexible... They are appliance brushes located near the appliances at HD...

What do you guys use besides the typical detail brushes, Terry towels, etc?

Shop vac, blow gun. Simple Green or Windex, and paper towels. Once they're cleaned it's pretty easy to maintain.

I keep old tooth brushes around for detailing. Those come in handy.

Re: Engine detail tools!

Fun Fact, if you want that Dealership used car detail look, just pressure wash everything, saturate in Armor All and blow gun off the excess. Just keep the pressure washer away from sensitive electronics, foam rubber, decals, etc or you can shred things pretty fast.

Same here pretty much... Found evidence of mice under the runners... nothing too crazy like when they made a nest out of my hood insulation, but gonna get it all cleaned out and blown out... The Bounce sheets helped, but they find new areas to bring their little snacks...

I got some of those mint packs that are supposedly very strong... They say to only use one or two in a garage And they last 1-2 months... I also got the stuff to sprinkle around the perimeter... My wife doesn’t want to “kill” them...

I don’t mind checking up on the cars once/week anyway..

Ooof... yeah I try not to use water...

You should see what happens when you pressure wash an LT1! OptiSpark no likey!

The TPI motors can handle a pressure wash a little better, I used to cover the battery, alternator and distributor with plastic bags get me some degreaser and have at it... One time on my 87 it ran a little rough for a bit afterwards and decided that probably wasn’t the best... Of course I learned it working at a dealer!

Simple Green, brushes, wet vac, compressed air, and quick Detailer on the paint is what I do now... I used to polish the runners back in the day, but nowadays I just want the plenum and runners clean and bright..

Re: Engine detail tools!

I found this microfiber duster at Home Depot also. This works great for all the lose dust and dirt that accumulates under the hood. It has a bendable shaft and it will collapse down to fit in tight spaces. I use it on the engine and the rest of the engine bay. Works great to get the firewall behind the engine. You can get it damp before use and rinse when done.

Thats cool! Might pick up one of those too! Would be great on the C4... That engine gets really dusty every time it goes out... The IROC stays pretty clean

Re: Engine detail tools!

To be fair, the Optispark no likey being an Optispark. If a little water under the hood causes a problem, the object being effected is the problem, not the water. LOL
