Thoughts on my new rims?

I just wanted to show everyone my new addition to my car. When I originally bought them they weren't in nearly as good condition. The inserts were painted gray (my car is white), there was fix a flat stuff all over the inside, the center caps were totally beat up, and the rims had scratches all over them. I didn't pay a whole lot, so I didn't expect a lot. So I took them to the place I had rim work done before. (Wheel Collision Center) and they worked their magic again. Ends up 2 of the rims (front ones) were pretty sound, no problems, one of the rear ones had a wobble and the other one was bent. So they fixed them all up for the tune of about 600 dollars included mounting of new tires. That included all the painting and everything. They do WONDERFUL work! As for the center caps I purchased them from someone on EBay for about 80 bucks or so which was much cheaper then the catalogs and so fourth that I look at that I have. They were BRAND NEW!! The rims look like NEW!:hail: :lala:

As for the tires I decided to go with the P245/50ZR-16 Bridgestone Potenza RE730. I must say the tread pattern look absolutely intimidating!

I keep going to the garage to look at them like almost every hour, simply beautiful if you ask me!! Sadly I have to wait for the rear wheel spacers to come in so I can mount them and have the car aligned. I can't wait!!! Lemmie know what you think!!

Mark

Here are the pictures:
Here is the one rim with the center cap and everything.

And here is a picture of the tires.

Those are third-gen wheels aren't they. You don't need any spacers. They do look nice (they should for 600 dollars of repair work, ouch).

Wow, those do look really sharp. Those tires look sweet too. I can't wait to get some time to polish/paint my IROC rims.

Thanks for all the great replies! Yeah, I do know it was a little expensive, but the look is absolutely amazing, and the place does excellent work. Yeah, about the spacers, someone had told me I would need them, but yes, they are stock thirdgen wheels, so you are right! I'm not gonna put them on till the car is at least clean! But thank you for letting me know that, I canceled the order for them.

TheWraith - I'm gonna sign up for that website later on tonight, becuase I gotta run out now. I have been looking for a local club! And yeah, I'm a student at LHS. I'm the senior class of 2002!

As far as these spacers go, I think you do need them. That's if you're talking about the ones that are about 1/4 thick.

If you have rear drums, you DO need them. They keep the iron rear drums from bonding to the aluminum in the wheel. And they give you just the right amount of clearance on the inside of the tire.

AJ

BTW, they do look great. Just curious; Why didn't you just get aftermarket wheels?

You don't need them. Look at the pics of my 82 camaro with drums--they fit perfect. The rear wheels have never stuck to the drum in the 8+ years I've had the car(always had aluminum wheels)--the front ones are the ones that stick a little bit. Bolt them on and see what you think

high temp anti-seize compound will also keep your drums from bonding to your rims.. a phenomenon I have heard much about, yet never seen despite performing millions of tire-rotations/brake jobs, and other misc. work orders that require the removal of the wheels. My car managed to roll off the lot without the spacers, has never had a problem. As for the spacing and whatnot, you got some SHARP eyes if you can tell a difference from any realistic distance.

All I can say is I want them!!!!! Those look bad ***. Rims and tires. Just curious about how much those tires costed. They do look really agressive. Hope they handle as great as they look.

I have those EXACT rims on my 92 Z28 (polo green metallic)... I bought 'em off a gay chinese guy of all people who had a white 91 Z28... I paid $700 Canadian including comp t/a's with 50% tread (so about $400 US for the set) in good condition.

I'm gunna polish mine and paint the white dark silver...

anywho those rims look awesome so now when is the 383 blown motor coming? hehe.

Garett92Z - Yes, I must say the rims are awesome!! As for the blown 383, that will happen as soon as insurance rates don't sufficate me...

jfox55 - I got the tires online from Tire Rack Online The tires were $128/tire and shipping was $31 for all four I believe. Total comming to $543.00 shipped to my door! Seemed like a really great deal as far as other places went! And I did a LOT of reading on tire reviews before deciding on them and Tire Rack had the most reading material. I will be sure to post my results from the tires on there as soon as I get a feel for them.

AJ_92RS - Thanks for the heads up on that subject matter. Well ends up the spacers that I had ordered are already on their way, so there was no canceling them. So I figure it won't hurt any to just wait and throw them on and prevent any chance of the brakes bonding to the rim! As for my reason of not getting aftermarket rims, I just love the stock look of these cars. And I was dying for a wider tire, yet still the stock look. And I LOVE the color matching of the rims to the car!

Sweet! I have the same tires on my 16" Z28 wheels! Of course my tires are a few years old now and my wheels don't look nearly that good. Makes me wanna get mine polished.

FiReBReTHa - Thanks!!! I'm glad to hear that it was well worth my money! As for other tires, when I was deciding which tires to buy the choices I gave myself were:

BFGoodrich f-Force T/A KDW -- $129/tire
Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 -- $87/tire (Excellent price for the reviews they got!!)
Bridgestone Potenza RE730 -- $128/tire

They all have agressive tread patterns, but I would have to say the Potenza's and Kumho's look cooler then the BFGoodrich. On Tire Rack you can do a side by side compairson of the tires, which is what I did.

I finally got a full shot of my car with the new rims and tires. This was taken at the SLP Customer Appreciation event this weekend in Englishtown, NJ. Too bad the weather wasn't sunny. LOTS of f-bodies..... but not a whole lot of 3rd gens, only a handful. Two nice TTA's though!
