Well I was on the freeway goin about 70, and this mustang kicks up a rock, it hits my winshield smack dab right in the middle. Left maybe a 1/2 inch crack in it, like a straight horizontal line on the windshield. Any way of preventin the crack from gettin bigger??

Thanx

That sucks.. Im unaware of any type of support or something that you could use to strengthen the rest of the windshield. A new windshield might be your best bet.

They sell window repair kits at the parts stores

or you could drill a litty tiny hole at either end of the crack.

EDIT: I know most of you won't like that idea, but it works

if you don't mind having a crack in your windshield, i would do what 86IROCZ suggested. put a little silicone in the holes so it doesn't leak

Allstate had my father's windshield replaced with $0 deductible. I guess that they figure it is safer and cheaper to replace your windshield then your car if your visibility were impaired by a bad windshield. So assuming that you have issurance, I would check with them and see what they say.

Well Tom91Bird, I'd do that, but there's no coverage on the car. I only have liability. Thanks for the suggestion tho. I might pick up one of those repair kits you guys described. Thanks again

Unless you already called them, I would say give them a call anyway. Like I said before, even though you don't have property damage coverage on your vehicle, they still might replace it cause you at least have liability coverage. Which means for example, if you were to hurt somebody in an accident (knock on wood), you're insurance might still have to pay, so they might glady replace your winshield so they know your visibility isn't impaired.

Yeah, you need a hole at each end of the crack to stop the crack from going further. It's similar to how body shops stop cracks on fiberglass (corvette) bodies. I believe eastwoodcompany.com sells a complete kit, including a carbide burr to put into your drill. My dad had a chip in his windshield, he used the kit to fill the chip- but as soon as summer came around, the windshield crack went from left to right across the window. It bought him a few months, though.

the repair kits they sell at wal-mat are usally only for chips, not cracks. Make sure you read what you can use it on.

Thats why I have total coverag eon my car. If anything happins, it covered.
