Anyone make cool looking Hood louvers??
Anyone make cool looking Hood louvers?? I guess they weren't designed to stay on the car above 92MPH. I hit 92 the other day and one went flying off the hood. I thought if I was going to replace it, I might get something a little different if they are available. This is for an '89 IROC. Anyone have any thoughts or should I just go with the $70.00 OEM ones?
Thanks,
Andy

I've had my car to 120 and the louvers stayed put
Maybe you had a bad set, I dunno.

When the louvers are removed and reinstalled, the studs tend to crack. Sometimes they break off when you're working with them, and sometimes they just crack and don't break until you get enough air under them to cause the phenomenon known as "louveris separatus".

I've been to 130 and mine stayed put. Been through the car wash a few times (long time ago) and they didn't budge. Now, recently I have noticed the drivers side one is coming a little loose towards the windshield.
slight subject change
i saw the mentioning of hood blisters, and was just curious how complicated it is to install 91-92 blisters on a flat hood. if i can afford it, i've got some fantastic ideas... hehe... muha... hahahahah!!! *cough cough*

I got mine from there. Little pricey but they are HARD to find... The phone number is 1-800-921-9214. And the P/N #'s are G46LH and G46RH. One is the left and one is the right one. Below is a picture of the blisters being spoke about on my car.

I think I have about half of the studs left on my louvers and they held fine at 120ish. But some where way down on my to do list is making custom hood louvers. I sketched some up and they look pretty good. Pretty much the same look as the stock ones, but made of aluminum and functional. I want to beable to open them to vent some of the underhood heat, yet close them to keep things dry if it starts to rain. If I ever get around to actualy making them I will post pictures.
on a side note, when you get to missing as many studs as I have its a good idea to drill a small hole where the stud was and use screws to hold them down. Much more reliable than the studs.

i used goop automotive trim adhesive, mine won't budge at all. I was iffy until a co-worker showed me how he glued a spoiler on another guy's escort gt. The stuff holds real well, only one question, how do I get them off my hood when i get ready to paint the car here real soon.
