Thought I was dead? UPDATE on the IROC-Z

It's been awhile since I've posted, and I haven't been posting nearly as much as I was. I got caugth up with some things, and running the local Thirdgen group as well. www.hr3rdgen.org!

So to answer your question I'm not dead, nor is my alter-ego "pennylessZ28" but I'm not so pennyless anymore. I've been working a pretty successful job.

If you recall I once owned an 89 RS and I am the dude who wrote up "The Poor Mans White Face Gauges" later I got my hands on this puppy, the IROC-Z, just like I always said I was gonna get!

[img]http://www.mikekey.net/images/P1010003.jpg[img]

Then one horrible day in mid July this happened!

I only owned this beautiful car for one month. It was such an awesome car, big improvement over that LO3 POS.

Well I've been doing my own body work, and my front clip just came in today!

Here is the car currently:

The engine is basically unbolted and ready to be removed, I'm just waiting on a friends cherry picker.

PLANS CALL FOR THE IROC-Z Call for the following:

Scoggin Dickey Fastburn 385 Engine with LT4 Hot Cam Upgrade

Price: $4,900

Horsepower: 430 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 430 ft/lbs @ 4400 rpm
Compression Ratio: 9.6 to 1
Duration @ .050" I/E: 218/228
Lift I/E: .525"/.525"
Block: 350 Cast Iron 4 Bolt 1 Piece Rear Seal
Crank: GM 1053 Forged Steel
Heads cc: Fastburn 62cc
Intake: GM Aluminum Dual Plane

I'm going to through on top of that the Holley Stealth Ram setup with holly TPI/LT1 Twin 58mm Throttle Body combined with Dynomax Cerama-Coat Headers 1/5/8'' to y-pipe which has an offroad pipe, straight 3 inch to flowmaster 60 series dual outs

Then we throw in my Accel Superstock 8.8mm Sprial Core Wires, Accel GM Remote Mount Super Coil and the Optima Deep-cycle Batterie Yellow top which I already own.

A little more tweaking....

Hotchkis Strut tower Brace
Be Cool Inc. Aluminum Radiator
Energy Suspension Camaro/Firebird Suspension Kit
Lakewood Rear Control Arms
Lakewood Coil Spring Traction Bars
Holly Adjustable Pressure Regulator
Elderbrock Aluminum Water Pump
Hypertech 160 degree thermostat
Aluminum Drive Shaft
Cross drilled and sloted Rotors
Perma-Cool Maxi-Cool Oil & Trans Cooler

and custom burned Prom and some tuning at the dyno

And for ****s and giggles!

NOS GM EFI Nitrous Systems T.P.I. Corvette, Camaro, Firebird; 100-150 HP NOS

Of course a brand new paint job New Carpet, and headliner along with some cup holders from a GTA if I can get my hands on them. After that my baby will be set and ready to rumble for Summer.

Wish me luck in quest to tame this beast!

Thanx, the car has to much personal value to have been junked. I went all the ay to PA in that car and it was nothing but good to me in the short time it was drivable When I got hit, the car was still drivable, no frame damange, I drove the car home just the way you see it in the picture. all the damange was cosmetic mostly.

But when I had the front end off the car, I thought, why not just make it a project now! So now it is!

Since i am such a LAMER, i'll only give you a bit of advice! If you order the crate motor and the hot cam seperate, do not buy the whole kit! All you need is the cam and the roller rockers. The springs in the kit are the same as the ones in the fastburn heads. You can save a little bit of money that way. I have already gone through this and trust me whan i say Scoggin-Dickey will not tell you that. I wasted some money, oh well. But, from the price you have posted, it seems like you are getting the motor and cam already assembled together. You could probally get away with ordering the stuff yourself and do the cam swap, its not hard at all! And you can re-use the timing gasket! All you would need is the lube. Well, good luck with everything-later.

Yes the cam is already installed on the engine, I just want something with 0 zipo miles and brand spanking new to drop in their. A 502 would be nice, but its a few thousand more and just a few more extra things I don't want to do.

I left out the ford 9 inch I'd like to get ahold of with some larger gears

Hmm... Electron Blue... correct me if I'm wrong, but is that not that really sexy blue available on the Z06 Corvettes?

Great color choice, and that motor will also have the ***** to back up the image

Why did you change your SN? Sick of the bad rep you got when you were a n00b?

Either way... sounds like a nice project.. and good to see you are doing the work yourself. I respect that.
