So do you have any hair left?

Yeah, I know it is a pita to do a dash swap. And I just went from 89 to a 92 dash. Couldnt imagine with the 4th gen.

Look good. Do you have the seats to match?

I swapped out my dash for an 85-92 bird dash, and with the help of a friend I had it done in about 2 hours. It was surprisingly easy, actually. My 83 cluster bolted up just fine to the newer style dash, and it even had a hole behind the cluster for the speedo cable, since the dash was designed for 85 birds which still had the cable speedo. I wouldnt say it was hard at all, just tedious, there must be 100 little screws that hold everything together.

Started at 830am pacific time, stopped at roughly 4pm pac time. Took a break for an hour to get some much needed food.

Pullign everythign off the old dash, and figuring out the cluster wiring has been the hardest part.

Speedo doesnt work (wrong wire obviously), cant find the fuel sender wire, also tach IS NOT CALIBRATED FOR A V8, ODO lights up, but doesnt record mialge cuase its ecm controlled.

Well, I had to remove the dash out of the parts car with a broke windshied. Glass everywere. Then the dash mounts on the side beside the doors were different. So I had to cut the old ones off and weld the new ones on. They guy also had a alarm wired up, so I had to cut and splice the wires. Some of the unit was missing. So I guess I ran into a few problems. But yeah it was not that bad if I had not ran into those certain problems.

I will be trimming it down to fit, but i want to finsih up the wiring.

So far:

Speedo: Cant get it to work, might be beacause im nto exactly sure on what wire it is on the third gen side
Fual Guage: Same as above
Lights: have no clue......
Odo: Lights up with 73k on it, but thats about it lol

Rest fo the guages work (albeit the tach is off, its not claibrated for a v8)

Custom X that looks pretty custom . I started to laugh when i seen the pics. They look just like my swap. do you have power mirrors, i dont and the **** comes very close to the side of the dash. What did you end up doing with your fuse block. I used my old bracket and modded it some and bolted it back to the frame of the dash. it sits in the same spot as it was. I forgot all about that stuid buzzer box. Im gona have to jam it up under the dash somewhere. also, after doing my swap, my buzzer wont shut off unless i put my seltbelt on . any ideas on this one.
the wire on the 3rd gen harness for the fuel gauge is the purple wire on the left connector. it should be the 4th wire in from the inside on the top. let me know if thats it. I just traced out the contacts from behind the cluster to the 2 plugs and then made a diagram of them.Did you say your lights werent working or the cluster lights werent? i think all the cluster lights are grey wires. Keep me informed. I have a huge Chiltons book for the wiring on our 2 cars. let me know what wire you need desribed and i will look it up

Hmm the purple on the left one hmm... i thought i tried that one for the fuel guage.....guess ill re try it.

Which wire is speedo hookup?

Ya the dash lights, thiers 2 wires, ip illumination and odo illumnation on my new cluster.......

As for the seat belt....i just left the wire disconnected, grounded the abs wire and i still need to groudn the security wire.

The fuse block will be jamed/bolted/ziptied underneathe one of the knee bolsters i think, havtn goten that far, been tryignt ot idy evwerything up, measure for the dash pad cut, extened stereo wiring etc.......

yes i have power mirrors i also noticed the vents are awefully close to the door's arm rest.

Hmm, the speedo.. i did not see any iwre listed for thaton the connecter, if you trace the wires on the back of the cluster the speedo and tach go into a seprate circuit board or something. I have a t56 and the SGI 5 box so i took the grn/wht wire on 4th gen harness and plugged that into the box, im gonnahave to mess with it when the cluster gets here later today.

with my old dash, I had the + on the t56 connector plugged into the SIG IN. I then cut the T5 connector off and put the + wire into the OUT 3. the ground wires from the t5 connector, t56 connector and the box where all grounded. PWR, is coming from the ACC in fuse block.

Now I have to figure out how get get it to work with the new cluster. I read on another post that the grn/whte wire on new cluster had to go the SIG IN on the box. That leaves no place to put + wire coming from the tranny

Man that sucks, is there any way to know for sure if its computer controlled, I cant why and how a fuel gauge need to be controled my the ECM.I hope I dont have this problem cuz I'll have to do what the nascar drivers do and watch my fuelpressure gauge for pressure drops. Been there and done that before. Custom can the dealer get you a printe diagram of the cluster?
