Why do all of our drivers seats always rip?

Is it just me or do our driver seats seem to rip all the time. I can't speak to those of you that have leather seats. But the velour seats even in near mint condition cars always rip on the left hand side of the drivers seat closest to the window. Why is this? why do they all seem to rip there?

Just a question. It came up on the History/Restoration board. I just want to know if anyone knows why.

this is because a lot of people rub this part of the seat every time they get in the car. it'll eventually develop on the passenger side, but takes longer because there isn't always a passenger

I never had a problem with the stock seats, I have never ripped a seat in any car in my life, I have ALWAYS wondered how people do that [perhaps....ya got a j-lo **** or something] lol.

I've noticed that a lot of people tend to slide down that side of the seat when they get into the car.... Notice that a lot of us wear jeans? Those copper rivets do a number on cloth seats

I guess some of that is possible. I have just noticed alot of the thirdgen cars for sale all say "mint interior the only problem is there is a tear in the drivers seat" It also seems like many of the thirdgens I actually see have the same problem. I just thought it was weird.

My 89 with 62k miles have perfect seats all the way around. My buddies 98 Z28 with leather seats and 52k miles has the drivers seat torn to crap and the pass is not great. Guess it just depends on how the people get in.

I think it is from the seat belt buckle dangling right beside that part of the seat. When people get in they inadvertantly cause it to rub on the seat edge until it finally rips.

My 92 formy had 155k on the seats, and not a single tear or worn spot. The seats in my GTA are equally nice. IMO it's the fabric that the seats are made from. The firebirds that got the thicker more durable fabric tend to rip and wear less. My camaro had a nice rip in the seat when I bought it, at 69k.

Well Im a big boy, and my fat *** caused a rip where there is some type of metal support or frame. I switched my pass. and driver seat a while ago. I couldn't believe how firm the pass. seat was. But I wore that bad boy down too.

hey i didnt say i paid for it.

the guy that sold me this was an idiot. because of him i have had to do alot more work to my car then i shoulda so i dont trust his word either. he told me he had new shocks on the car when i bought it. bull i pulled the STOCK shocks off of it when i put new ones in. Same go for the struts. he took out the AC(it gets too damn hot in Mi for that ****) so i put it back in. he took out the cruize control and ****ed up the power steering. he was an idiot.
