Has anyone here had paintless dent repair???

I searched but came up with pretty much nothing... I did see something that said if your dent is a "crease" then it won't work. What does this mean? I got a dent in my passenger fender, and I'm thinking about trying paintless dent repair, but I'm not sure yet.... anyone have anything to say about this? Advice, etc etc? Thanks.

PDR can be a great thing.....

Paintless Dent repair ( PDR ) can be a great thing by a qualified & exsperienced person. But on the other hand it can look like you took an ice pick to it if done by the wrong person. There are several things i recommend you to do. #1 Ask friends, relative & co workers if they have had any done & what they thought of the finished product. Also find out who done theirs. #2 Ask your local body shop. Being a manager of a large body shop I recommend PDR if a dent is clean & accessable from the back side. #3 Also ask yourself if you have nice paint. Is it still in good shape, basically does it still have a nice shine. #4 Did the damaged area break the paint. ( Is there a chip in the center of the dent. ) If there is not it could be a PDR candidate. #5 Last but not least go see a PDR Technician, get a price & ask his opinion. A good Tech can tell you if he thinks he can get it out. Good Luck, Joe

My paint is brand new, got it less then 6 months ago... is this good or bad? Or do you mean is it worth fixing the dent in #3? It didn't crack the paint, it scratched it though... I'm hoping I can use formula 113 on it and get the scratch out, we'll see. I ordered mine yesterday, hopefully it'll get here soon.

I was thinking about it, should I try asking my insurance if they know good places for PDR? My insurance isn't paying for it, but I figure I could ask them where they send people? And should I see where a local chevy dealer sends people?

Head over to a used car dealership and look around at the cars there, if you can't see any dents on any of 'em, try asking who they have do their PDR. Some places do it in house, some subcontract for it. We do both at the place I work at, and in both cases the work done is top notch. Good luck with getting everything together.

I had it done on my 94 grand am when I had it. I needed to get some nickle and quarter size dent out from people shutting the hood with thier hands instead of just dropping it. Worked great. Wouldn't recommend for a dent size too much bigger then a quarter.

I would say any of these people could suggest one.... New Car Dealers, Used Car Dealer, Your Insurance Agent, Local Body Shop, maybe even your glass shops, or customization type shops would recommend someone.....

I replied to this request in an email sent to me by the original poster. I do PDR for a living and felt this would be good for others to see also.

A crease is an indentation or a dent that is longer than it is wide. Usually a crease will have 2 main characterisitics, the deepest part of the dent will be either "V" shaped or "U" shaped. The "U"shaped will be easier to remove, but both can be removed without any signs of damage.

PDR can't be done easily on a car that has a show finish. These are the cars that have been wetsanded and buffed, and no "orange peel" exists. A dent stretches the metal and it needs to be kneeded and massaged back into place. It's almost impossible to get the metal in the exact place it was before the dent started. You can remove a dent completely, but I'm referring to the reworking of perfectly smooth finishes. Every push from the back side can leave a very small mark in the metal that is never seen with orange peel, but is very noticeable on a smooth, sanded finish.

The products advertised on TV that say you can remove a dent yourself are a joke. They don't work and can actually lift the metal surrounding the dent higher than it's supposed to be. The dent will still be there, because the metal is now very tight, and there will be a mound surrounding it.

I work for Dent Wizard and found that they have techniques for removing almost any dent that is accessible. Some are too severe for PDR. Do not go to the local used car dealer to see where they get the work done. I started out my career in PDR removing dents for used car dealers. Do you want a beginner working on your freshly painted car? Contact a reputable body shop or the local Dent Wizard. Request a technician that has been doing this for years. You will not pay more for the guy that's been doing it longer, but you'll get better results.

Lastly, if you guys like your cars finish, you will not try this yourself. The good PDR tech makes it look easy, but it isn't. It's an art and it takes time to get good at it. Believe me, I've damaged plenty of metal while trying to get good!!! Call Dent Wizard at 1-800-DENT-WIZ.
