V6 80psi Oil Pressure Gauge in a V8 ???

Had anybody here ever installed a Firebird V6 80psi Oil Pressure Gauage into a V8 Firebird?

I want tp upgrade my 60psi gauge to the V6's 80 but will it just plug and play? Does it need to be calibrated or what?

Thanks!

That is a good question. I would like to know also. My 60 psi unit stay maxed out. I dont want to add an aftermarket unit, because I like the stock looking layout of my dash. Anyone done this before?

Exactly. I'm also at 60+ for the first like 20 mins of drivin, my needle just pegs out. I would also like someone to post a pic of a Firebird 80psi gauge. I may not upgrade unless it looks good like my 60psi one does.

If you replace the gauge and sender, it'll work fine. Willie did it.

So the oil pressure sender has to be replaced with a V6 one and that's it? Cool....

What's to see? The gauge reads "0, 40, 80" instead of "0, 30, 60".

Accroding to my 92 brochure it says "L, dash, dash, 80". See that's why I want to see a picture because I'm only going to swap mine if it really is "0, 40, 80"...

I can't help you there. On the Camaros it's got the numbers. I didn't pay enough attention to notice that you've got a firebird.

us people with l69's get a 80psi gauge and an 8k tach, we just have to endure having an 85mph cable driven speedo. We got an 80 psi gauge because gm used a higher volume oil pump

Are your cars stock or do you have a high pressure oil pump?

My father had a Legendary Buick 3800 Engine (usually common to go 250,000 miles without problems) but his oil pressure was reading high and he blew up his engine (Threw a Rod, parts all over the highway, it was a mess) And proceded to re-start it and drive it to a dealer to trade it in...

IF your oil pressure is reading too high it MIGHT be an indication of some clogged passages inside your engine.

John

Not in my case anyway. It's because of Royal Puprple Syn. Once my car has been running for about 20 mins. it's stable at between 30 to 50. I't only at like 60 when I first start it and if I push the gas then it shoots p past 60 but I never move or rev my car until the temp needle makes it first move anyway.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WANT!!! Sweet!

Thanks for posting that pic! Now I'll start looking for one.

I plan on of course adding a high volume oil pump when I rebuild my motor eventually anyway....

No problem, they're not too hard to find, lots of V6 Firebirds here in the junk yards.

Yep, I swapped in the exact same cluster that 89V6FBIRD has, and since I originally had an L69 with the 80 psi guage I didn't even have to change my sending unit (until it cracked ) I also needed the electric speedo for my T-56 and wanted to have a speedo higher than 85 MPH, so I got the V-6 cluster with 120 MPH speedo, 80 psi oil pressure guage, redid the pinouts in my dash and wired in a Dakota Digital tach adapter box (so that the V-6 tach would work w/ my V-8 and it's great (also went down to 69,000 miles on the odo. in the process ) So anyway, after babbling on about this, yes the V-6 cluster has a 80 psi guage, marked out 0-40-80, and I love it!
