theres all these deep *** scratches where the door meets the body of the car (see pic) on the bottom. the door doesnt seem to be touching it though, so where the hell is it coming from?

. yeah its gotta be the doors but im just a little dumb founded at the moment cause i could swear the door wasnt touching...im gunna check the hinges tomorrow, when i can pull it into my auto shop at school
just try to move the door up and down when its full open.
it looks like the door rubs that bottom, maybe from corning and the chassis flexing and rubbing metal to metal and taking the paint off..

Looks like the actual skin (not the gfx which are set just slightly higher than the door edge itself) of the door is dragging the gfx from worn out hinges. A plauge a majority of these cars have.
You can replace the lower hinge pin/bushings using a replacement 'kit' sold in the 'Help' section of most major autopart stores and upper replacements are made by a fellow member who's name is eluding me at the moment (I think it's andyz28 or something probably totally different)
Best bet on that is do a search for 'upper hinge' or similar phrase, you should be able to find the guys and a link.
*edit.. now looking at it again, it looks like the gfx have begun scraping as well. Also, the post 'sagging doors fix?' just popped back up so check that post out. I was actually right about the name for once too

The door on my 88 GTA does the same thing. I can't quite figure it out. When the door is closed, everything looks lined up except for that trim piece on the door is about 1/4" lower than the one on the body behind the door. Also, when the window is up, I really have to slam the hell out of the door it seems to get it to shut all the way. If the door is open and I roll my window up, it just will not close right at all. BUT, if the window is down and I close the door, it is really easy to close. This problem is troubling me. Any ideas? Matt

Yup yup yup. That's been my experince too. 95% of the time, you just need new bushings. They're a friggin' pain in the *** to put in, but it's always fixed my door problems. Not just in my 'bird, but in my '90 S10 too.
