Big feet and thirdgens!

I am about 6' 2" tall, with feet not that big actually!! Well depending on the shoes I wear, I get my left foot stuck under the dash just up from the clutch pedal sometimes!! More worrying, my right foot sometimes gets caught up momentarily!
Does anyone else experience this?

Andy.

I don't have a kickpanel on mine.. size 12's here and don't think about issues like that till I drove a friend's 86 IROC and another's 92 z28 which did have that issue.. makes driving weird with your foot always hitting and getting stuck...

Has your Camaro been converted to right-hand drive? Im in Australia and my 84Z-28 has been converted to r/h drive and if the others arent aware, when you switch everything to the right inside the car you lose leg room also. There is less leg room on your(US) passenger side car. You really realize this when you drive one of these every day and you are 6ft 4in. Yes it is worth the stress.

I'm 6'5" and have a size 14 shoe and that only happens to me if I'm right in the middle of racing someone and it sucks to almost get beat by some stang because of your big left foot.

Yeah, it's happen to me before in a friend f-body. If you think the third gens are bad, the fourth gens are even clumsier. Once you get used to it, it's okay, you're foot doesn't get caught...as much.

Well I have a auto, and wear a 13 and I have never experienced this on either side. I havent driven a thirdgen stick but I have driven fourthgen sticks and never had a problem.

I thought I was driving wrong! I passed my test in 1980 and have driven many cars since then. Most of them stick. For some reason, I keep catching my feet on the kick panel! I thought I was going mad!! My shoes are only size 11! My trainers are the worst. Pretty glad it's not just me then!

No the car isn't converted to RHD. I wouldn't do that anyway! I enjoy being on the "wrong" side of a car for a change!

NJITIROC
Yeah. It got me a bit panicky yesterday when I got my right foot stuck when I was trying to brake for the car in front that had stopped.

Now if I could get the seat back a bit further-....................which brings me to my second problem. Anybody get frustrated when the damn seat doesn't go back quite far enough?!
Perhaps I was never intended to drive a 3rd gen!!!!!!!

Andy.

glad i dont have a manual then (13's for shoes)

good old automatic

at least they have some room down there, my friend has a 5 speed vw fox 1993 and i literally couldnt touch the clutch without hitting the brakes and the same thing for the gas and hitting the brakes; it was a mess!

The only fourth gen i have driven is a 93 camaro, and my right foot actually contacted both the side of the console/dash and the brake pedal. my foot was actually too wide to press only the gas! i wear a size 13 and had on some large clunky shoes, so im sure thats a factor. it just takes a little different technique

if your foot is getting stuck above the clutch pedal then you don't know how to drive standard right lol

I say this because my foot got stuck when i was learning too, i'm 6"2 tall.. big feet...

you gotta push the clutch pedal in and out with your entire thigh to avoid this problem, you can't treat the clutch pedal teh same as the gas pedal

My T/A had those retarded aftermarket pedals on it when I bought it, and my foot would hang onto the brake when Id nail the gas quickly. They had to come off because of that, in addition to the fact they looked dumb. My car is an auto, and I have 13 feet and am 6'2" my favorite part of the thirdgen is the room inside of it.

I have always found the seat room to be adequate, it goes back far enough, but the cars with power seats seem to sit higher. less headroom.

nice to see something we all agree on: big feet are a headache in a 3rd gen....

What happend to the 14th foot?

I've never had this problem, but I'm only a size 11 mens shoe in the U.S. Then again, I haven't even gotten a chance to drive my GTA much. Not having an engine will do that ya'know.

it depends on the brand of shoe i wear. in nikes, i wear a 14, all other shoes, i wear a 13.

i'm 5'11'', i've never had a problem getting my feet stuck.

the one that gets me, though... is when i've been driving my s10 (5 speed) and i go to drive my parents somewhere in the caravan(automatic) i find my self pushing my leg out, as if i'm trying to push the clutch.

anyone ever done that before?

Heh when i drive autos my foot always reaches for a clutch sub-conscienciuosly but i also shift my autos too. I have a hard time getting into my hard-top bird sometimes 6'0" with size 12 feet i gotta lean the seat a little and tilt the column up and im kinda skinny too but once im in its all good.

you know, in my sc, in order to fit in under the wheel (non tilt column), i have to slide the seat all the way back. when i actually am seated, i slide the seat up, and recline the seat.

i'm a big guy 5'11'' 260 lbs, 13 shoe, 42 waist. i don't fit into these cars very well. if i have the seat set up high, i bonk my head into the t-top.

i enjoy driving them, though. nothing like them.

Oh yes! Pressing a non existent clutch pedal-been there done that many times! Worst thing is the other way round. Not pressing the clutch in a manual when you come to a stop because you think it is an automatic! Embarrassing.

I read a thread somewhere where someone had cracked his dashpad getting in with his knee! I thought that was quite funny until this week when I actually started noticing that my knee catches it every time!! Not cracked it yet though.

This may sound silly, but our cars are right hand drive. So I have spent 22 years driving these. So getting in is quite easy. When I am faced with getting in on the left hand side in the LHD Camaro, I can't do it! I have to put my @ss in first and slide my long legs in after! I don't have to do that on the other side. What you get used to eh? Unfortunately our camaro's are driven perhaps twice a week in the summer (really special occasions) so I never do actually get used to climbing in on the "wrong" side!!

Andy.

yeah I was the idiot who cracked his dash with his knee. twice. two perfect dashes ruined. never claimed to have much common sense.

I got a size 13 shoe and my feet never get stuck. I guess maybe because my under dash hush panel is off?

As for getting in and out, I'm almost 6'3" and close to 300#'s and I get in and out easily. I guess you just learn to get used to it. When I had my 88 Corvette that was a PITA to get in/out of.
