Removing side mirror
Hi,
I have the door panel off at the moment and the bolts taht hold the mirror on seem to be almost impossible to reach. Anyone have any handy tips? I am replacing the black plastic type gasket as it is cracked.
Cheers,
Felix

I simply used an extension on my ratchet (make sure you snug the bolts up. After repainting the car and, of course, removing and replacing the mirrors, both eventually loosened up so that I had to go in again). By the way, since you're in the door panel anyway, you might consider cleaning and relubing the window tracks as well as the power locks. Should you have rattles, as most thirdgen cars do, check the following post:

Felix,
I replaced my side mirror a couple of weeks ago. Sumbeech crashed into me. I had to take the front window runner out because the black triangle at the top was busted. It's only 2-3 bolts, and you get great access to the door mirror bolts after that.
Cheers,
Paul

Yes, a ratchet with extention worked for me, too. Where did you order the gasket? I need one for my passenger side mirror but I don't want to order it from the US since shipping will cost more than the part itself.
JamesC - You mentioned clening and lubing the window tracks. How did you do that??? I have sand caught in mine and the comressed air idea doesn't work too well because the tracks are not very accessible.
thanks,
Eddie

Cheers all,
Freeze, I got the gasket from German Motorsport- see the posts on the Europe Board. Excellent service and no ugly import duties.
I realise now that to access one of the bolts it is far easier with the window down! Makes access 100% easier!
Job done, waxoyld, runners lubricated, power locks working again and upgrade to later rod holders (thanks again JamesC)
Paul I remember that incident well! Have you got any compensation from her yet?
Cheers,
Felix

eddie,
In order to access the window tracks and the power lock mechanisms, you must remove the door panel and splash shield. Once removed, you'll be able to see what's what.
Felix,
I'm glad all went well.

JamesC - yes, i've got the door panels off (and vapour barrier) but the tracks are not that accessible and even facing the opposite way if I remember correctly. I was just wondering how you actually "cleaned and lubed them" because I have sand actually stuck in the grease, so it doesn't come out easily (already used an air gun and compressor).
