T-Top Weatherstripping care
T-Top Weatherstripping care
Are there any products out there recommended for treating and prolonging the life of T-top weatherstripping. I'm about to replace mine and I want to make sure they last. My current original seals have dried out and cracked in spots from years of wear and tear and I hope to prevent that from happening to the replacements. Ant suggestions?

303 works well. Something you can use more often and is a little less messy is just some simple spray siliscon from Wal-mart. Spray it on a rag and rub in every so often. This stuff gets into the pours of the rubber and casuses it to swell...which means a better seal. It stopped my T-tops from leaking for the most part and my dad uses it on his convertible and swears by it. I think Prestone makes the brand I use.

Armor All is oil solvent based, which eventually dries out the rubber seals. Use a non-oil-solvent based silicone, spray it on a rag, and wipe it on. It's important to spray it on a rag first as EYEROCK89 stated because some propellants are harmful to the rubber. Not to mention, the rag will wipe the rubber clean, which is THE most important thing you can do to keep them new. Dry rot is bad, mmmmmmmk?
Does GM have anything you can order through them? I thought I read about something you could order from them through a dealer a while back, but I could be mistaken.

Yeah, they probably do, but it;ll cost you out the @$$. Really though, go get some of that Prestone silicone spray. That stuff is only like $2.50 for a good size can.

Thats the stuff. It won;t hurt the paint either so you can saturate the seals and then rub it in and then off your paint with a rag. Or, like you said, you can spray it on the rag first. Either way will work.
