Carbon Fiber hoods and 2nd gen spoilers
two questions here:
1) are there any carbon fiber hoods out for the 82-92 Camaro (with louver provisions) not interested in the carbon fiber pattern (Id paint it black to match the car) more interested in the very light weight of the material over the 50 lb steel hood.
2) would it be possible to mould a 2nd gen spoiler onto the decklid (the 3 piece one) or is it too narrow/long? if it's too long it could be cut, but would it fit. I like the way they look but I'm not too sure how it'd be on a 3rd gen, guessing it'd be like a cheaper version of that 5" spoiler from thirdgenresource.com

i'd like to find a ram air hood, like the ws6 i think it is, can't remember, that's carbon fibre.. but.. the people who make things out of carbon fibre don't really like domestics.. so they don't do anything for us.. we get jipped on that kinda stuff. :-/
I do however remember seeing a carbon fibre hood on a 3rd gen camaro, not sure what year. It was a typical hood tho, nothing special, or flashy, or sexy. Just straight out.. Hood.
Do a search, i'm sure you'll find it.

From what I understand there is a company that makes a stock "flat" hood out of carbon fiber but I would not buy it. It may be a little lighter than fiber glass but the problems that I have seen with carbon fiber is that it has a tendency to explode if it were hit or damaged and cannot really be fixed, only replaced. Fiberglass can be fixed. It's up to you though. The other thing is that carbon fiber is pretty expensive. That's my thoughts on it.
As far as the spoiler, thirdgenresource is the only place that has it. You may be able to find someone locally that does glass molding, it thier any good, they could probably make one for you. Might want to ask around any speed shops and some of the racers at the track that deal with glass molders.
Good luck on your quest though.

I'm looking at the possibility of using a 2nd gen trans am spoiler for my 84 and have also looked at the Camaros to see if their 2nd gen spoiler would line up. From what i've learned, the second gen decklids are not as long as those on the 3rd gens. Also, if you look from the side, the 3rd gen camaro taillights have a steeper incline angle than the 2nd gens. There is no bolting on possible. I'm hoping to give it a shot with the firebirds by modifying the original 2nd gen spoiler by any means neccisary and creating a mold from it to produce a fiberglass spoiler that will fit on the 3rd gens. I did 2 photoshops to see how it would look when finished and i'm impressed by it. let me know what you think

what is that thing in the last pic?
i dont care to much for that. i think if it was laid back a bit or sloped more the spoiler would look better but not straight up.

I agree with spartyon, it does have the right flow to it.

i was going to mention this when posting it... it does look high in the second pic and i'm not sure if it's due to distortion of the image or if that's how it would really look. Photoshops aren't perfect. However, in the first pic, it ended up being a little lower than the ramairhoods.com 4th gen style spoiler was. I'll have to take some measurements of the real thing and do a reality check.

one thing ive learned recently...
99% of all mass produced carbon fiber hoods weigh the same as the same thing in fiberglass.
just FYI
