Cheaper way? Putting 145 speedo overlay on the dual speedo?

Hey, I've been really really wanting the indiglo gauges, it's just what my interior needs. Right now I have the 85mph/140kmh double speedo. Only problem is, they don't make the indiglo white faces for the double speedo, and even if they did, I don't like the whole dual needle thing going on there.

So, could I just break off the kph needle, and then put the 145mph overlay in there? I know the mph don't line up exactly, but that shouldn't be a huge deal right? If anything it will get me less speeding tickets as it's about 5 mph off, judging from where the "brights" indicator is at. and heck, it may end up about right as my speedo's already off with my taller rear tires.

I hope you know what I mean here...

I would buy a 145 speedo, but I haven't been able to find one, (there's none on ebay now either) and if this can save me a ton of moolah I'm all for it

any help would be appreciated, and thanks

Hey thanks for the link, I may have to get one of them, but they're a tad expensive for me right now.

What I think I'll do is try my original idea just for the heck of it. I'll get the overlay and put it on, and if something goes wrong, worse case I'll just buy the 145. And it's about 5 mph off, but my speedo already goes over with the taller tires, so I'll get out the gps and see how my speed really is, and if it's close enough, then that's awesome! And I have two of these gauge sets so it's no big deal.
Mind you it won't read over 85 mph but in all honesty I may not ever go much over 85 hehe

i was talking to someone the other night, and we came up with the funny idea to print a overlay for that dual needle gauge..

imagine one side being MPH... nice looking

the other has things like

"granny speed"
"old lady cruise"
"geo pacing"
"legal limit"
"gettin there"
"whoa"
"oh my g0d dont you remember the brakes suck?!"

ect.... i cant remember most of em.... it was like 3 weeks ago.. heh.. funny though. :lala:

hehe Mr_dude, that is a great idea!

I seriously might try it some day hehe, and if you end up doing it make sure you get pictures. It would bring a real personal customization to your car, and a rather comical one at that!!

I found a shop in st louis called signs by tomorrow, i think, that made custom signs and stickers. They made decal stickers for a firebird speedometer. I took the needle off, sanded the face, then painted it flat black. They let me pick out what fonts I wanted and what the numbers would look like. They made the design on a computer and made it close to original scale. I left them the blank black speedometer and a regular speedometer to see where the numbers should go. The original was 85mph and the one the made went to 100mph, I took out the trip odometer so it would all fit. It took them a week, but they even put the stickers on for me, all for 45$. The guys there thought it was kind of funny when I asked them to print "fedak designs", my last name, at the bottom of the speedometer but I thought it was cool and it proved to my friends that I made or at least paid to have my own custom gage made. I might try to post a picture of it if here, i can figure out how.
