going to be replacing floor pans, need advice....

Ok, im almost ready to undertake the whole process of redoing my 88 Iroc Z Convertible (second one i've owned, first had to be sold due to finacial needs ) On this car, The top side was broken as the car sat over a year and collected water, and rusted out the drivers floor pan pretty bad, needs to be completely replaced, the interior was also mainly destroyed. I was just wondering if anyone has done a floorpan replacement before by themselves and could offer me and advice or hints/tricks. My old shop boss will be doing the welding for me for free. I only found Next Generation/Year One as sellers of new floorpans, are there any other companies? The black car in the pic is getting 92 style dash, 92 style ground effects, new seats/carpet, and a speed density TPI 350 5spd. Im pretty sure i'll keep the car triple black (car/top/interior). I have all the componets just about just need to start doing the labor... fun fun fun

Oh damn....OUCH! Man thats some serious rot in those boards. You got a nice little project ahead of you. Look at the good side though, your saving one more 3rd gen, a drop no less! Keep us up dated!

Ouch!! That's what my 82 kinda looked like, but worse. I suggest adding in SFC's while your doing the floor pans. Its good to stiffen up the chassis on the verts to begin with.

I also am looking to replace the floor pans on my thirdgen, but yearone seems to be the cheapest company to buy from that i've found. If you happen to find a company that sells them for less then yearone, it would be much appreciated if you would post it. Also good luck with your project looks like you got your work cut out for ya.

ahhhh thats not bad!!! Actually it looks it but suprisingly it happens to alot of us! My car was just as bad (prob long ago) and someone welded in new panels and didnt cover them up well enoght and they rusted out real fast....as you can see at my site every patch the person put in was totaly ate thru cause i had to replace all of them and i didnt have any new holes to fix. So make sure your ganna cover thoes new panels well. heres some good advice in this tread i started back when i did mine.
youll wanna cheak out these two links, on one them is alot of pics of my floor.

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to get a car without any rust? I flew to Atlanta Georgia and drove back to avoid rusting heaps. Total cost was lest than $3000.00 including gas food and airfair with the car.

nope it wouldnt be, not for me,,,,,,, ovbviously its too late for that anyhow he already bought his car...no sence selling it who wants a flinstone car. Regardless the work to fix the floor isnt all that expencive if you do it yourself.
We all dont live in the south were rust isnt an everyday thing. Plus how did you know what the floor really looked like if you had to fly there to buy it? 80% of our cars id say have rusted holes in the floor an many cars theres not a sign of rust on the body.

Anyhow can you explain what your sig means when it says about the ttop hatch pull down cargo thing??? What is it??

He needs the plastic panel that is in the hatch area that covers the trunk latch.

i would buy a rust free car BUT, convertibles arent a dime a dozen around here and when they do come up for sale, they go for at least 3000, running or not, Here i got the 88 iroc for 1000, clean title, runs excellent, v8, and complete, no parts missing just bad floors, so i wasnt gonna pass it up. Floor pans are 200 a side and figure a few hours labor, not a bad comprimise and i think many would agree with me. Besides, when i do all the work myself and fully restore this car to something amazing once again, i can be proud of it and show my skill and not just be another guy who paid cash to try to be cool. Its a hobby for a reason, to get dirty.
