This teaser's a pleaser; how's it look?

Hey guys, no "meat" to this post, I'm just really excited about the coarse beginning of my 4th gen dash installation. How's it look so far aside from the typical wire mess and temporary sloppy fit? Detailed notes are being taken so all those "Gee I wanna but don't know how" fellas can breath easy, this install is no sweat (unless you're afraid of wires).

It makes me cringe thinking that you're putting one of those hideous 93-97 dashes in your awesome car...

Aaaah man, thanks I think.... It's not that bad is it? I mean, I'm most likely putting a full set of AutoMeter instruments in place of the factory ones (UltraLite or Carbon Fiber). I'd been looking for a nice 4th gen dash for eons but the cost is so much. I happened to buy a Nova from this guy, and he offered it to me for $40 - too good to pass up. Heck, I know it'd be messy to use this one "for now" then put a different one in later, but that might be the case. I don't really like the 'bird one honestly, and the late model Camaro ones are NOT cheap. BOTTLEDZr28 used this model dash and it looks smashing in his car

I didn't mean it negative in any way... If you got it for $40, I'd say its a deal.

My personal preference led me away from the 4th gen dash... I just bought a 90-92 dash, we'll see how that goes. Someday, if I can find a complete donor 97+ car, I may do the 4th gen swap.

Good luck!

I'll post some pics for you guys once I start making a little progress. So far, I've just stripped everything in front of the backseats. You know, dash, center console, kick panels, seats, etc.

Just waiting for the weather to get a little nice, and well...for my '99 z28 dash to come in the mail.

The wiring looks bad, but really, most of that stuff just gets pushed right back up behind the dash, never to be seen again. The only wires you even really have to touch are the ones going to the gaugesand HVAC. Maybe 25 wires. Easy.
Although, this may be a little easier for me because this isn't gonna be the first time I've decided to change dashes...

I like it, I think it goes along with you're SS theme very nice. And you got a very good deal.

Most don't like how you done a SS theme when there never was a 3rd gen SS.

I don't share their veiws. I think that if you back up those two S's then you're good to go..And with the blown 305, I'd buy me a 350 block a do a 355 or 383 if I had the money.

I respect what you have done to the car, and I like the look of the dash.

Oh yeah...forgot to input my opinion on the dash

I think wha you have, the 93-96 camaro dash is the best possible dash for a thirdgen. It fits he lines of the car a lot better than the bird or newer camaro dashes. The lines are just sharper, like on a thirdgen.

With that said, I bought a dash from a '99 camaro. Why? Because I like it better

I agree your SS theme rocks!

I am doing something similar, but having custom panels made to say "SC" since my vert is in SC...

Anyway are you getting everything functional? AC and everything? Also is it the same setup for a 98+ that it is for a 97? LOTS of pictures and tons of notes would be much appreciated. I will donate the web space and domain if you need space to put it all up on. Let me know. Are you taking pics with a digital?

My thoughts exactly, thats why I've got 95 z28 dash sitting in my garage just waiting for me to get off my lazy *** and put it in.

A: Well, I am thinking I might go with AutoMeter instruments instead of the factory ones, but so far I've been prepping the wire on both ends to use the '93 gauges.

B: As far as the HVAC goes, I will tinker with the 4th gen setup, but if I am unsuccessful, I will put my pillar gauges where the controls are, and make a secret compartment for my hvac controls - ghetto? Maybe, but I think it'd be better than nothing. However after inspecing the two, I think it can work just fine.

C: Is what the same? The HVAC? I believe so.

D: I've got that covered

E: Got that covered, too (Thanks, though)

F: 2048x1828 Resolution good enough?

I can't wait too see the pictures. Should be sweet! If I was going to do it I was going to use stock gauges, but wanted the 4th gen Hvac to work. Since my car is torn apart, I might be able to just add the 4th gen heater box, but that is really the only thing keeping me from doing the project. I don't want to deal with it if I can't get the hvac to work. I don't mind wiring my car from scratch. So I may just have to look into this as my next big project.
