I mean, i know you can scan a different color and make them white but im talking about overhauling them. I see a lot of good looking interiors on this board but always the ugly HVAC controls. Is there anyway to make them look a bit more modern?

I've been tossing the idea of swaping it out with a newer gm hvac controls. I got to start diging up some wire diagrams and stuff to see if it is possible.

you can use the 93 and up hvac controls from the camaro or firebird.. you would have to mod the opening to make it fit..also the wireing and vac lines are not that hard.. the blower wires are the same..hot/cold hard line needs to be modded alitte to make it work and the vac line colors are a bit different but doable.. most everyone doing the 4th interior have done it and alot of info is on the boards..i am putting the controls in my 91Z soon as i get them in ill let ya know...

I would question the 93 up controlsfitting even with modding the opening. In searching, they were just way to wide to fit. The one I have from a corsica (or one of those) doesn't even fit all that well and modding is reqired to get it in and you have to make new mounts. I had to remove the hot/cold because the cosica's had the servo controlled hot/cold selector which is to large to adapt on a 3rdgen and have the underdash cover fit. I adapted a 4thgen hot/cold selector and found they work opposite the 3rdgen slide. I pulled the cable from a mid 90's s-10 which is about double the 3rdgen cable and mounted it to the opposite side of the selector door to fix the problem.
The vac diverter will work but, not properly. I haven't gooten much further than that since the car has taken a back burner to more important things for the moment.

Don't get your hopes up.. if you read my 2nd post.. it's not a direct bolt in at all and IMO... hardly work the work just for a minor, no one but you will really appreciate, upgrade.

I never tried anything like this, but I have an idea that someone may be interested in. If you want to use a larger HVAC control like Deadbird did and you have an aftermarket radio (smaller than the stock one), you can fabricate a new radio/hvac bezel with a smaller radio opening and a larger HVAC opening.
