FOX NEWS-GM recalls update, any thoughts?
I have a 83 z28 with only 62k or. miles. Both my hand brake and seat belts are defective. I was given both sets of recalls by my local service manager, who tried to help me get my car fixed under the recall. After a week of investigation, and dialogue with the dealer/Chevrolet customer service, and reading all of the posts here...here is what happened....Chevy turned me down, I asked why...said car was too old...but here is the kicker..their own Campaign states that they will fix these items with no cost to owner, regardless of miles/ owners or AGE of vehicle. They are not being honest. They say they cannot find my vin. no, which indicates it probably was done, and dropped off the list, but if so, why does it still not work?, shody workmanship or bad replacement parts..they would not even go there with an answer. Here is what I have done yesterday..I called FOX News in NY, you can only leave a message to see if they will respond, so far no answer, then I called my local FOX in Santa Maria, Ca., and they told me to send an email with the info, so I did, so far no answer. I think if everyone calls, maybe they will act. I know there are consumer help places with some media outlets, does anyone know others that might go to bat for us? I would be glad to make the calls/emails. Also, Chevy customer service told me they normal drop vins after seven years from their computers, then how could they tell you for sure that your car has been fixed. My cars has neither of the campaign stickers under the hood. Appreciate any thoughts from you all how we can proceed, without getting legal representation and a large bill. Take care, Dennis

call chevy back and just keep asking to speak to a higher authority, explain your situation, and if they say no, keep saying that's an unacceptable answer and ask to speak to someone of higher authority.

Seeing as I work for a tv station, I couldn't pass this up. When trying to get a story done by a news station, always have as much info as possible. If you don't hear back go in and check on it. The more you have and the more you push increase the chances of something getting done. It anoys the reporters, but it might get them to do something. Also, the chances of the station doing a story on it, increase/decrease depending on sweeps week. Or if it was just filed, meanig it gets put in a list for awhile for reporters to have story ideas. If anybody in Kansas has had this problem, eMail and I'll give it to the right people. Unfortunatly, Cali. is a little far. But I'll see if they will honor it on my car and go from this end.
If you think that is bad . . .
I have a 1995 Camaro Z28 with 8,000 original miles. It just sits in my garage. I noticed a little bit of oil and coolant on the ground under the car when I backed it out to wash and wax it. Come to find out with was the intake gasket. Typical problem on the LT1's as you all know. I called Chevrolet up to see if they would cover this $800 job as quoted by the local Chevy dealer by me. Afer waiting a week they said that they would not cover it because the car was too old. I explained to them that it has 8,000 babied miles, fastest it's ever gona was 75 MPH on the feeway. To no luck they turned me down.

Seems like GM can't build an engine that holds coolant these days. Class action law suits are getting common over this and the Dexcool fiasco. That intake is a pain to work on too.

As far as the 95 it is outside of the year warranty, so they do not need to warranty it. Think of it from their end. Its not hteir "fault" that you didnt drive it more than 8000 miles. True, you want to keep a vehicle with as low of miles as possible, but that car fell out of warranty 4-5 years ago. As far as the recall, I believe they are mandated to do so. As it is a safety recall. They cannot put a time frame on it.

you also need to keep in mind that running an enginer actually conditions seals. They can dry rot if no oil, or lubrication ever hits them. A 9 year old car that doesn't ever get driven often has those problems.
I know the car was out of warranty. I mean we own 6 chevrolet products and thats all we ever bought and are gonna buy. I didn't really expect them to fix it, but being all of the service bulletins and stuff about the LT1's intake gaskets leaking, I thought they might have. I'm not complaining or anything im just telling everyone about my experience.

Where would I look to see if the recall was done on my car? Someone mentioned a sticker under the hood, but i don't know what sticker to look for.
Cause my seat belts unlatch sometimes for now apparent reason. And that doesn't inspire me.

The sticker is differen't for some people. I have heard of them being green. Mine is white. It is located on the radiator cover on mine. Do your buckels have metal clips on the sides? That is a good way to tell if they were done. Some people had the entire buckel assembleys replaced, but they seem to have the defective buttons on them. One more way to tell is to go to your local Chevrolet or GM dealer and have them look up your VIN to see if the recall was preformed(many times it will show up as done, even though it wasen't). Seatbelts not laching was a problem that led to the recall, you should bring it to your Chevrolet dealer with print outs from the body and interior board "seatbelt recall". Tell them the problem and if they say there is nothing they could do, tell them you will bring bad press and call Chevrolet untill something is done.

Already done the VIN thing, they said that they don't keep VIN numbers over 10 years old, and so they wouldn't do it. I don't have any clips on the buckets.
I suppose I have to print the TSB, bring it in and then tell them they HAVE to fix it.
