My seats (from 97 T/A) won't sit straight

That about says it. Just finished putting seats from a 97 into my 87. They seem fine from sitting in the car, but are definately not straight when viewed through the windshield from in front of the car. Both seats lean outboard, towards the doors. The seat tracks appear to be be basically the same height as the stock ones, so I don't see where the problem would be coming from. Has anybody else noticed something like this?

If you are using a manual adjuster, Some cars I have seen a cable or a wire going between the two sides, It is possible to get one side slightly ahead of the other, and still get the seat in the car. This may or may not be the problem. You may be able to pull the leaver and twist the seat in the direction you want...

Good luck

John

True. I am aware of that possibility, but don't think that is the problem here. I'll double check to make sure though, since the slope of the floor would cause any twist (yaw) of the seats would affect how they sit with respect to vertical (roll).

For the record, the adjuster is manual, linked side to side with a wire as you say and does allow the rails to be adjusted separately.

I think this is what he's referring to. The seat backs lean outward.

No. I wasn't bidding on them. I don't need 97 seats for any of my cars.

Well, I've removed and replaced them again, checking to ensure that the inboard and outboard seat rails were adjusted correctly. They were. I ended up adding about a quarter inch of shim in between the outboard seat rails and the seats to get them to straighten up. I'm not really happy with that, since it makes them sit higher (they were already higher than my stock seats). I might look into adjusting the mounting of the seat backs with respect to the seat bottoms.

But yeah, scottmoyer, that's pretty much what I meant. It looks like you can see a little of it in the picture you posted.

re-use your original seat rails.

Yep, that's my next try. Any more work on my ramblin' wreck is going to have to wait until after tomorrow night's GT basketball game though

Thanks for the input!

This may sound silly, but you do have the driver's seat in the driver's side and vice versa, right? .... Just checking.

I believe using your original 87 Seat's rails will do the trick.
