How do align driver's side doorglass window?
How do align driver's side doorglass window?
Hi. I have a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 hardtop. I had someone replace the driver's side power window motor three years ago. Prior to replacing the motor the roof rail weatherstripping was replaced by using the A&M Soffsealbrand and doorglass was sealing very well. After, replacing the driver's side power window motor he didn't align the door glass. I see a gap of about 1/8 inches where the glass meets up at the front front rubber piece located near the driver's side mirror. Every time it rains or when I wash the car water gets inside and have to put on duct tape each time I wash. It really bugs me. I have decided to tackle the door glass issue myself. After dismantling the door panel. How do I start aligning it? Will it also take away the window rattle when the window is down? Your responses will greatly appreciated. thank you
steve, if all you need is vertical alignment that it is actually quite easy but if you need horizontal alignment as well then it is a tad trickier.
If you have the panel off already, then all you need is a 10mm socket and ratchet.
Vertical alignment (up / down):
- window most of the way up
- there is a 10mm bolt "in" the top of the rear vertical window track (outer door handle area). Loosen it. and raise the steel blocker as required and tighten
- there is a metal window stop near the mirror (the plastic stop on the glass hits this metal one on the door) Lossen the 10mm bolt that holds it to the door shell and raise it as required.
Horizontal alignment (in / out):
- there is a bolt on the vertical track (nopt the one holding to the door) that allows movement of the track toward the outer door skin or toward the inner door shell
-there are also 2 10mm bolts that hold the top of the triangle filler panel to the door (near the mirror). Loosen and slide in or out. There may be one other bolt to loosen....can't remember without looking.
Hope this helps

Sorry, running the search engine and found my problem but no answer. The answer here shows how to move the window up/down or in/out. Any help on moving it forward so it is in the channel on the triangle piece at the front of the door. Thanks

If the window is in the right place, and you just can't get it into the triangle filler panel, just uninstall the filler panel from the door, slide it down and then slide it onto the glass and re-install, if your glass is 2 far from the front piece, there is a vertical bar in the back of the door towards the latch that should have horizontal adjustability. I can take pics of how to do that if need be later on today. Just gimme your email.

I just got this car a week ago and I am in the process of restoring/repairing the many little problems with it. Nice to have a muscle car once again but anything that is 18 years old has some problems. Thanks

Re: How do align driver's side doorglass window?
Couldn't get my email to take em so here are the pics on here. As you can see from the arrors, these are how you adjust the tracks. From there it's tinkering and playing with them to get them back the way they are supposed to be. First pic is of the adjustor by the latch , and the second pic is of the one attatched to that triangle filler panel. Hope this helps, any other questions feel free to ask, i'm in the same process as you with my '88.

Re: How do align driver's side doorglass window?
I fiddles with it for an hour tonight. Seemed to make it worse before I got it back to where it was before(the front triangle). On the three bolts towards the back I loosened them but couldn't get anything to move. Do I need to spray them with a lubricant to try and get some movement? Scared I was going to bind up the window and if anyone has had a side window get bound they know what happens next. I may just move this down to the end of lists of things to do and end up taking it by a shop. Thanks and now on to the rear hatch that worked when I got the car but now 6 days later has stopped.

If the back of the door glass is set properly with the sail panel and you complain of the front of the door glass by the mirror not being high enough, then you need to raise your front bump stop. Look on the front of your door glass. There should be a round plastic disc that is attached to the door glass with a rivot. Roll the window up and see where this front disc makes contact with an adjustable metal stop. The stop is adjustable(10mm bolt). Roll the window down enough to take pressure off the stop. Loosen the 10mm bolt and raise the stop up 1/8 inch. Roll the window back up to ensure that you have the correct setting. If not continue to tweak the stops until you are happy.

Dang, I am starting to think the glass has been replaced with a thicker replacement. I thought I had it ready to slide up into the groove but it didn't want to go in and broke off a piece of the inner guide. Needless to say I stopped and repositioned the panel.
