115MPH to 145MPH
I changed the speedo in my 89 Iroc-Z today. I bought a 145MPH cluster and swapped over the speedo, fuel and charge gauges. I didn't swap out the tach because mine has the oil gauge built in and the other one had the oil gauge riveted on the tach. Unfortunately I payed way too much for the 145 cluster for the condition it was in. I had to do the wire repair on the trip odometer that was suppsed to be in working condition. I also painted the black mask with aluminum paint as shown on another post here. I checked all bulbs and lubed the speedo cable before I put it back together. I successfully removed the odometer assembly from the 115 speedo and transplanted it into the 145 speedo. The replacement speedo shows the correct mileage of the car.
Please don't make fun of my "road map" dashpad.
It will be replaced as soon as I can find one.

Nascar,
The plastic lens looks a bit cloudy. I've had great success in cleaning them up by using 3M Professional Formula Plastic Cleaner (for Clear and Colored Plastics), which I purchased at CarQuest. I used a drill, set at a fairly low speed, and a buffing attachment. Works great.

did you have to recalibrate anything when you switched from the 115 to the 145? I want to go for the same thing.

The clusters are pretty much plug and play as long as you swap cable driven to cable driven and electronic to electronic--90-92 should be electronic.

personally, i want to get the 140mph speedo with Z/28 on the speedo. I saw one on eBay go for something like $75..looked great too.. but i didn't know anything about changing them out at the time and i didn't wanna screw it up.. oh well..
does anyone have any info on these? I heard somewhere (on here i think) that they were like a dealer option or used as a replacement by dealers or something.....
BTW, the speedo im talking about (the one i saw on ebay) the owner swore that it came from an 87 and was cable driven.
