I Wanna Chrome My Car
I wanna chrome it, the whole body!
I know it's a crazy idea, and I'm not actually going to do it.
But I saw a pic of a thirdgen once, and something about the light gave the impression of a fully chromed body at first glance. And it looked KILLER.
It would never be practical for a number of reasons, but what I'm really thinking of is a finish that would be nearly as reflective, possibly with a slight bronze tint. With a black carbon fiber hood.
Does anyone know of a paint that would have that effect?
I think it would give a whole new definition to the term "Pimped Out"
I get this way when I stay up too late at night.

Real chrome?? No, not a thirdgen. Only a show car for that. And for a show car I'd pick something that's all metal from the '50s or early '60s
But painted... Yeah
Except I have a feeling my lady would be insanely jealous. Although she'd never say so, subconsiously she'd be plotting to destroy it.
For that matter, the glass could be mirrored too. The only part you wouldn't be able to see yourself in would be the tires.

do like we'd do w/ an airplane, make some panels for it out of sheet aluminum, and polish the whole damn thing. You'll spend 5 times more time polishing than you would driving, however, if you were simply using it as a show car, and it was being "trailered" to the show, then, i'd say, a polished car would be pimp. However, then you've gotta form new bumpers, along w/ ground fx.

Thanks for the replies.
Any chance someone with photoshop could show us what a thirdgen would look like mirrachromed, like that pic that BirdsofPray posted??
Mirrored glass not nessecary, black hood, T tops if possible, maybe with a slight bronze tint.
That'd be cool, thanks.

I have seen that paint live before it is kinda dull... not glossy like regular paint... and because of the high metallic properties it doesnt last long... but does look kinda Kool

The bad thing about the mirrorchrome is it's real difficult to get it to bond on paint. Need a smooth as glass surface to adhere to. I don't think it would handle the flex involved with our nose and bumper.

the only reason that the surface has to be smooth as glass is to get the full efffect out of the paint and to make it look mirror like the paint can be used on metals, plastics, wood, foams etc. if you read the info on the site it tells you the reason behind making the surface smooth and it tells you all the steps to take to apply it

problem with that is the duration. supposedly it's been tested up to a ten year period and still working however it's hard to believe knowing what hot wheels and hypercolor went through.
used subtle on pinstripe, ghost effects, etc. the color changing is really fun. i couldn't see myself doing a whole car though. trying to find a way to implement the chrome paint into a subtle piece as a base of sorts...rather difficult.

i think using that as stripes of flames would look realy cool imaging candy chrome flames on kandies car with the same tint like the quad. it would look very one of a kind.....i think it would work? anyone else.....
I sill have that image of a black chrome 'maro in my head, but a black car with candy ghost flames sounds kinda neat looking. But c'mon what could be glossier and deeper than chrome. Black chrome..............
mmmmmm donuts, i mean, chrome

there is a company that "plates" the plastic to look chrome like on that red fourwheeler a,, you do is send them your plastic, they are called vacuform, something like that. i dont know how its done. but that mught be a start. but you would have to do something like a t-bucket roadster so you could send it to them.

The look is nothing new, Audi did this 13 years ago. Jag has also done it.
1992 Audi Concept
Audi also did this to an A8, which is a rather famous car, that still goes to audi motorshows, and is in the audi musuem.
